Teasing is used to give fullness and volume, and is an easy way to pump-up your style. It is also very useful in long hair styling.
Rule #1: Focus on the crown. Teasing at your crown -- rather than all over -- will give you just the right amount of volume.
Rule #2: Skip the comb. Stylists recommend using a flat-backed brush instead of a comb, the brushes are easier on your locks. use hair spray for extra security.
Rule #3: Get creative. Curl your hair in rollers, slick hair back in a low ponytail or pull a headband into place. I also love it when a basic curled hair has oomph from teased hair. Have fun with your new volume.

instead of combing your hair by going from the top of your head...brush it backwards and do it really fast, tease it in the spot that you want! here are some tips:
How to backcomb hair to give it fullness. Teasing can add fullness to a hairstyle and give fine, limp hair greater body. Take a 1- x 3-inch section of hair, comb it out, and hold it away from the scalp at 90 degrees. With a fine-tooth comb, gently comb the section from the ends toward the roots. A slight tangle will form at the base and the hair will stand away from the head. The more times you backcomb, the more fullness your hairstyle will have.
You can tease your hair all over for a very shaped style or do just one area that needs lift. When you have finished teasing, brush or comb the surface of the hair lightly to smooth it.
Avoid too much teasing; it can damage hair badly. Gently comb out the snarls before you wash your hair.

To tease your hair -- take a small section, lightly spray with hair spray and brush it back toward the scalp. Ususally a comb or a small brush works best. If you're trying to add height at the crown, leave the top layer of hair smooth to cover the parts that you teased otherwise it looks unruly. To comb it out, try a detangling spray! Have fun.

The better question..
WHY would you tease hair? Are we in the 80's? Did I really get so messed up last night that I didn't realize the world had reverted?

Hold it out straight and comb it backwards. Just keep in mind that it is really bad for your hair - causing tangles and breakage.
