My dog was recently attacked by a neighbor's dog. Later that day, at the Vetranarian's office, I commented that that some pitbulls are violent when they are not raised properly. Then they lady behind the counter said that I was being racist.

I don't think it's possible to be racist against animals. Wouldn't it be "breedist?"
Also, I said SOME pitbulls can be violent if they AREN'T RAISED RIGHT. That's different than saying that they're all violent all of the time no matter what, right?

So was I being racist? Please answer.

YES, there is such thing as Animal Racisim. No, I don't think that you were being "racist," though. Some pitbulls are very dangerous to both other dogs and other people if they aren't raised properly - sounds like the "lady behind the counter" has nothing else to do besides insult clients.

I own 5 pit bulls. And out of my 5 pit bulls, only 1 is aggressive. He's aggressive to other male dogs, and to strangers. That's why he's kept as my guard dog. So you're correct, some pit bulls are aggressive, and some are not (like my other 4 pit bulls). But this can be said about all breeds of dogs, not just soley pit bulls. It's on an individual basis when it comes to whatever dog in question. You can't say "pit bull!" and then fail to mention the thousands of other dogs of different breeds that have attacked animals and people. If you don't raise ANY dog right, it's going to attack. Growing up as a kid, I've been chased and almost bitten by a few dogs that were running loose, and absolutely none of them were pit bulls. There are some breeds of dogs that I personally don't like (poodles, chow-chows, pugs), this doesn't mean I'm being "rascist", it just means I like pit bulls the best. Each to his own, like having a favorite car.

WEll no racist is against another race but i dont think you are breedist either. There are different types of dogs and they act differently and have different needs so its not. That person who said ur racist is wrong.Maybe you shouold say its their nature to be active.Saying violent may have been a little harsh.thats it.

No, you're not being racist, the person behind the counter sounds like an idiot. What you stated happens to be an absolute fact. Next time that lady tells you something stupid like that tell her to shut the f*ck up.

yes it does but it is not the dog but the owner that is the blame. I have a wolf dog and some people feel the same about her as they feel about pit bulls, and she is so gentle even thru when i found her you could tell that she had been abused. We won her over and she minds great and loves all.
