I can understand how there can be one or two bad apples that have gotten into the atheist barrel, but how can it be that the vast majority of atheists have problems with simple logic? Is it because most of you are much younger than I expect? it certainly would be unfair of me to expect a university level of education if you are all really Middle School students. Or is it just that you have never had classes in logic and never read any books on it? What's the problem?

cpt_the_giraffe: "How" is a question word. For example, "How do I get to the post office". In this case the question is "How can atheists be logical?"

Perhaps a remedial English course would be of assistance to you.

intel_knight: Sure some of them were. In fact, the more logical content there is in them, the more it confuses the vocal atheists here on Yahoo Answers. So have you ever had a course in logic or read a book on the topic of logic?

lucyanddesi: It may be true that I am far superior to many of the people here, but that isn't because of some weird spooky mystical property, but merely because I value education. If you would stop being actively anti-intellectual, you could learn logic too....I think.

spamandham: Perhaps the problem is that you are one of those who have no clue as to what logic is. I assure you, I have asked logical questions and the more rigorously logical they are, the more they seem to confuse people like you. That's why I want to know why you *claim* to be logical when it is clear you have a vast antipathy to it.

eddiervc: Thanks, but I think it is much simpler than that. It is simply that I am not an anti-intellectual. The public schools don't have formal classes in logic. Unless a person goes out of his way to find a course in logic or to read books on the topic. they remain ignorant of logic.

I think it depends on the individual and how much education they give themselves. Not everyone can afford a university education. It doesn't matter the subject, the only way to know it is go out and learn about it.

However, since a lot of school systems have trouble teaching the basics such as Reading, Writing and Arithmetic, how can they be expected to teach Logic?

Ask away.
I think if you want to hear arguments that founder ask someone to explain why they think there is a god and then ask them to offer up tangible proof. While they are at it ask them why their god is better then any other god or why their beliefs are more rational then anyone Else's.
I am an atheist, I could care less what other people believe. I have an elementary school education. I may not have the vocabulary or the book learning, that does not mean logic is the exclusive domain of the educated.
An interesting note about your question, you are assuming you are writing logical questions and that atheists are foundering on them. Perhaps you might consider that you are asking nonsensical questions and people are getting confused.
I could use any book and find some sort of justification for every irrational belief I have, it does not make me right.

It's not accurate to discuss this in terms of religion. The plain truth is that weak arguments and utter bewilderment regarding beliefs is universal here. Everyone has the passion of a true believer, but very few have any clue why they believe. The majority of religious/spiritual answers I receive from folks here, whether with faith or without, are the same as you receive from atheists: blind acceptance, parroting of an ideology and knee-jerk defensiveness.

Do what I do: forgive the majority its ignorance, and be grateful that there are a few opponents left who can keep up with you.

I'll tell you why. On my path of research, I eventually ended up to the mysteries and unknown, just out of curiosity, and thinking of the possibilities and possible conspiracies, it seems that I created a mental image of what the world would be like if some of these things were true. I still had the world I knew, and that world. They more I read and discerned it into that world, the more I understood the nature of mankind. Regardless of faith, it always was about us and our creations. Will the 2 worlds ever emerge. Maybe, but experience is lacking. The reason why is that any true atheist builds his case, but the case being built makes one wonder, Then the atheism status relinquishes.......Well...sorry will...I don't know what your looking for but I tried

Oh I'm sorry, though I am old enough to grasp your question I must have missed the point of it. Why don't you ask questions such as these to the smug reflection in your mirror, while you entitle me to utterly destroy any 'logic' in your questions. Though I find the concepts of 'logic' and 'christianity' an impossible marriage, I would be delighted to use this sense and melt your brazen world. Just let me know.

I am an atheist, and a very logic-based thinker. I would hope that I don't sound like I have problems with simple logic. I would assume that all theists do, but I suppose that that is personal bias.

This requires no logic, it is an abstract concept and as such, I expect you to miss it's point.

LUDD is right there with you, why don't you kiss his slimy mouth. A little shared spit between kindred spirits shouldn't bother a good christian child...

I have seen you make statements such as this numerous times, but have yet to see the questions you keep claiming people are floundering on. Your vague accusations do not flatter you.

Apparently, you are far superior to them, Will. Is that the answer you're looking for? Does that make you happy now? Does that satisfy your quest for godliness?
