Allah mentions christianity and jews because they have the scripture but do not follow it, they recognise God, and some of his Prophets. Other religions are either referred to as polythiests (ie. hindus) or just disbelievers, and Allah knows best

Buddhism's not a religion. It's a philosophy. Much like existentialism, except with much less self-loathing and much more insence.
Muslims will agree that the Islamic faith came well after Judaism and Christianity. Might be why their Holy book is transcribed word for word from the original.
If you look at their faith, you'd see that their prophet Mohammed was given a final draft of the holy, inspired word by Allah (God). So, yes, in a sense, they are the latest world religion.

web references are not trustworthy and not good place to learn.
Many people have the misconception that Islam is the new religion and Prophet Muhammad pbuh founded Islam. Prophet Muhammad is not the founder of Islam but he is the last and final messenger of Allah. Islam is there since Man sets foot on Earth. In fact, the first man on earth i.e. Adam pbuh was first messenger of Allah.
quran does talks about idol worshippers.... and it includes all, budishm, hinduism,,etc etc

The prophet Mohammed lived in the 7th century so it could very well be the most recent of the major religions. (Mormons may catch up to them some day. They were invented in the 19th century.)
Judaism began about 3500 years ago if we begin with the Mosaic Law.
Buddhism began about 2500 years ago.
Christianity (the largest world religion) began about 2000 years ago
Islam (the second largest world religion) began about 1470 years ago.
But the oldest of all is the 3rd largest world religion, Hinduism, which started over 3500 years ago.

Yes it’s clearly mentioned by God in Quran the Islam is the last and final religion by God. Buddhism is not God's religion that's why there is nothing mentioned about this in Quran. Christianity & Jews are God's religion. It was Jews then Christianity & last of all its Islam by God.
