It could be just a calcium deposit, which occurs at the site of a bone injury or next to a joint that is stressed a lot. I got one on the lower end of my left femur (I call it my 'extra kneecap') when I was a young teen, and although it sometimes aches slightly in cold rainy weather, it has never given me any real trouble.

Just take it one step at a time. It could easily be a calcification (which are common, especially if you've had a severe leg injury).
