Depending where you live check the yellow pages or Google on line for your area. It cost about $125.00 per hour to learn to fly a helicopter and you need dual time before you can solo. The next step is to get a private licence, commercial, instructor. Each step takes more hours in the aircraft and more tests with the FAA.
52K seems high but not everybody takes the same amount of time. Once you become an instructor you can build time and get paid for it so your insurance isn't so costly.
You can join the Army to fly helicopters!

About what I paid to get an MBA and life has been good to me since. The salary is about double. If you can do that for 52 K then just look at the return on the investment. Good pilots can make six figures. Try to get anywhere close to that in the salaried work force.

yea, WAYYYYtoo much, for private, the average student takes about 55 hours multiple that by about $200 hr =11,000+ $60 hr for instructor X 35-40 hrs = about 2400 throw in $1000 for ground school material, headset, medical, pratical exam. should not cost more thatn about $15,000 I would think that is the HIGH end.

that sounds about right. my brother inlaw wanted his liscense too and for him i think i was 42,000. i guess all companies are different. who knows. but think of it this way. you put all that money in and you would be making WAY more in a year. so i think its all worth it.
