My husband and I just split. I have 2 kids and we live with my grandmother right now. She is in the hopital right now. My husband only pays $56 a month in child support. Should I work full time and put my kids in day care, or take care of my kids and grandmother and go back to school so I can get a better paying job?

Oh wow, you've got your hands full. How about working some place where you can get some education benefits and do to school part time. Pick up one course a semester until your little one is in in school.

Do you have any idea what you want to do? If so maybe you can look for a job in that industry, you maybe able to find an employer who will not only pay for you to go to school, but actually give you time off for class or to do homework.

If you have no idea, go to the community college and take an interest test, this at least is a starting point. You may find that you a dental technician would be something you would like. You can maybe get a job in a dentist office, get at least good dental benefits. And take classes.

A four year degrees may not be necessary. A two year degree maybe perfect. Don't rule anything out. Look at your options.

You don't say what state you are in, but 56 a month in child support is a joke. Is he in jail or unemployed or what...you need to get more. Not to mention alimony.

Right now get the job and help with your kids and grandmother. Because if you try to go back to school right now that puts everyone into a very unstable situation. So when your grandmother gets better then she can watch your kids for a while til you can get enough to go back to school with and make sure whatever school you choose has child care, so that your grandmother isn't all tired out all day chasing after your kids.

You don't give your age, but I think school is overrated as a method to make more money. You might consider a full time job that provides some training assistance. That way you can work and perhaps go to school in the off hours. The kids will get older and at some point not be a big issue, but right now you need to get your feet on the ground. Going to school will not help you do that.

If you have the opportunity to go back to school, then go back to school. There isn't much future in a job without a degree. Going back to school will only help your's and the kids future.

Wow, well since your ex husband doesn't make any money, your probably going to have to work and go to school part time. Living off of your grandmother isn't fair to her.

Definitely go back to school and get a better paying job. You can work part-time and go to school part-time. I have known many people who did that and they came out to be very sucessful. It's never too late to go back to school. There are some colleges I know that aren't too costly. Some of them are Heald College (http://www.heald.edu/), Western Career College (http://medvotech.nurseuniverse.com/articles/Western_Career_College.htm), or check out http://www.colleges.com/ to find one that suits you.
