I came across someone asking "Was Jesus the son of God?" I answered "I don't believe so." I was honest, very polite, I didn't even say "no" flatout, just that, as far as my beliefs go, I don't believe Jesus was the son of a god.

Within five seconds, I had two "thumbs down".

Why do you think this is?

My guess is, many Christians think this is an attack on their beliefs. I have to disagree with this. You are only stating you own beliefs.

Perhaps they didn't want your honest answer to be chosen as the best answer. To that, I say there's nothing they can do about that, any more than there's anything you can do about a man choosing a poor answer over 17 good ones, where the one poor answer was the only one written by a man.

Perhaps they just disagree. Well, heck, the Religion category is not one to go to to become popular. Oppose a major religion, and you likely get disapproval from many.

These are just a few of my suggestions. My position is that Jesus was the Christ, and still is, but if you disagree, then I can accept that I can't change that.

I think there are some close-minded people who do that way. If you don't sound like them, they would put a thumbs-down.

I also answerd a question in past, and said politely, "I dont believe Jesus was the son of God" which got 11 thumbs down, and 2 thumbs up. It's because, may be, some can't accept the truth.

Better to ask yourself why you let it matter to you what others think of your beliefs. There is no way to prove or disprove Jesus was the son of God in the way that Christians believe him to be so it is purely a belief and not a verifiable fact. If people wish to give you a thumbs down, let them, they are allowed to disagree with your beliefs just as you disagree with theirs. You should have realized with that particular question more Christians would view it than Non-Christians.

some people are not open minded to other peoples beliefs I do believe that Jesus is the son of God but that does not give me the right to judge you for what you believe. Its a good thing God will not put men as judges on the day of judgment.

When I give a thumbs up, it's usually because I agree with the answer. When I give a thumbs down, it's because I disagree with the answer.

Occasionally, I can see a persons point of view, but don't necessarily agree with it, but like how they said it. In those cases it really depends on my mood. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

I got a "thumbs down" once because an asker wanted to know who wrote & recorded a certain song, and I told them the artist, title and lyrics. Go figure.

I think the "God believers" thumbs-down anything they don't agree with, and the atheists/agnostics/etc thumbs-down anything THEY don't agree with. I really hate the thumbs-up, thumbs-down system. It's a wash. I feel your pain. Try not to take it personally.

Because a lot of religious people have to believe that what they believe is right, otherwise their whole lives would be nothing but misery and pain for no reason. I personally don't believe Jesus is the son of the Christian God, or any god either, but I accept the fact that I might be wrong. Anything is statistically possible, after all.

That stinks, i know. I'm a christian who rejects the idea of ghosts and say that the saved soul is phsical until the resurrection. The soul is the enitre being which happens to be physical you know. Then the darn Christians give me a thumbs down.

They disagree with you, tis all. Some do a thumbs down only due to inappropriate answers. But others use it as a way to express their opinions. So, basically, you had a couple of christians giving you thumbs down.

Heh, you don't care about their opinion anyway, right? :)

Because of the number of people who disagree with you, and because any moron can give any question a thumbs down if they don't like the answer. Get used to it, people will do what they want.
