I am visiting New York city .. my friend lives here and she will take me around.. everywhere she shops and travels.. all about making and calculating to cents and dollars.. groceries to bus fare to brand name clothes with discounts....she says all new yorkers are like this and they like to bargain everything..why are they like this , if they cannot afford why are they living there...

not all new yorkers...are stingy. some are -- most are not. new york is for the rich. and lots of people like to live among the rich yet -- as you say they can not afford it...but try..they try. it takes then "stinginess in one's account" to survive among the rich. this is part of the explanation -- also the fact that new york is such a rich city, with lots of varieties..and plenty to do...so if you have limited income and you would like to see it all or buy it all...then you have to be "a bit stingy" to save money for the other pleasures..in life...whether buying or services...voila...hope it helps...enjoy your stay..in new york..and spend wisely.

yea everything is very pricy. everything. but once you live in new york even for a year and if you like it, it's hard for you to live anywhere else. new york city is such an exciting place to live and everything is convenient here, everything is nearby, everything is open 24/7, you dont even need a car but you do pay for the price in taxes, dining out, etc... thats how it is! :)

Speaking as an NYer- we are stingy because were greedy and broke. (sad but true) We're trying to get as much as we can because there's no telling when the supply will run low.
