11 Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection.
12 But I don't permit a woman to teach, nor to exercise authority over a man, but to be in quietness.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
14 Adam wasn't deceived, but the woman, being deceived, has fallen into disobedience;
15 but she will be saved through her childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and sanctification with sobriety.
1 Timothy, chapter 2, verses 11 through 15

18 Wives, be in subjection to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord."
That is Colosians, chapter three verse

Then, it turns around and says: "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus"

Also, here is an online, searchable bible so you cant say that i took this out of context. The surrounding text isnt any better.

Also, i kind of feel bad asking this question because most people will think im trying to be an *sshole but truthfully ive tried to bring this up civilly with christians before, at my old church, face to face, and most of them just told me that i was a heathen and wouldnt have a serious conversation about it.

Ive already mentioned that context isnt an issue, and if these passages are to be defended due to time and context, that just demonstrates that these passages shouldnt be applicable today (if we use that argument)
Which bring up another argument: The bible says you can either be hot or cold but not lukewarm. and if you are lukewarm god will spit you out.

SO how can you believe the bible in its entirety if part of the agument defending these passages is that the times were different?

Its either one way or the other!

This equal rights thing has made many women move from being humble and submissive to being loud and arrogant. Society is braking down by both sexes - men not being men and women trying to be men. The lines were drawn after sin that a woman should be submissive to her husband and the husband should love his wife as Christ loves the church. A man should lead his house/family to christ and his wife and children should follow but because the lines are blurred to what exactly submission is and what is staying quiet is it is being misread and misunderstood. That is never the plan of God but sin changed things and the points above are put in place to help us live Godly lives. Women, it is hard to find a good man much less a good christian one but if you do you should be by his side and be submissive because he will never ask you to do something you don't want to and he will love you like Christ love the church, you will love to be submissive to him if he is Godly. Understand that.

In timothy it is talking about the teachers of the church and everyone had their part or place, but there were also warnings to particular churches of that day about prostitutes, because if you also read 1 Corinthians it talks about women and hats and how they should dress and there was a large problem with women of the streets coming into the church and drawing out the men of the congregation and the problem got so bad that there was actual sexual activity right in the church, even on the pulpit, so the leaders of the church were desperate to find a solution to this and put forth certain rules. And for those today, even pastors and church leaders that dont know these facts, these scriptures can create wars as it did in New York last week where a female sunday school teacher was fired after 54 years, and it was because of these things in 1 Timothy .
Anyway theres more to it but I hope that helps !

I really think that some of the Bible is true and then you have to realize that King James so called" translated" the the Bible. So, believe what you want. I believe that if my husband treats me with respect then I do the same in return, I work just as hard if not harder than my husband, men and women are equal, new day and time. If you feel that you live your life right then that is all that really matters. God never said that you had to read the Bible or had to have a religion, he said that you have to believe.

Hi, I think women are not being discriminated by the bible. First of all good created the Male and the Female. Female being the weak vase, but that does not mean you are being discriminated. Jehova God created the man as the Head of the family an has the authority over his wife the female. I know more info about the bible but I read it on Spanish and the conotations are different, but I hope this helps.

yeah i know...i've seen it.
it is discriminatory against women, and its obvious. but remember that this is the word of men who have nothing better to do then glorify themselves and bash the other half of the species on the way so they can have more power. i dunno who ever thought of making someone less then equal but the bible is a major source of sexism today and i'm appalled that people still believe to this day that God would ever inspire words such as this. its shameful and its impact is even more shameful. i say a woman can do anything a man can and more. we are the source of life, we give birth, we nurture....and sure most women weren't built for bodybuilding but that's for a reason. cos its absolutely useless. and no word of God or men can ever convince me to let my own opinions, ideas and power be dismissed so that i can be a meek obedient lamb who follows under one other then my own self. women are their own "property" and no one has the right to own them or make them lesser then they really are or tell them what they can and cant do, what they are able of. the world needs a greater input from women the one that has been suppressed, because the world isn't built to last by today's manly, aggressive standards (hence the dying of mother earth) if men want servants they can go you know where... i wont be brainwashed

First of all as a Bible scholar, you need to know the context and the time period these verses were written. Men back then were very discriminating towards women!! From the time of Fall to the letters written by St. Paul, women get hammered on just because they are females. They were not educated in schools, they got stuck at home taking care of home and children. In some verses in the Bible it says women were unclean due to PMS issues. But when you read the Gospels, not once does Jesus himself tell women what there positions are. As a matter of fact, Jesus reached out to women and brought them to the level of men to the position and dignity. (Many men hated him for it) Jesus had several women following him around along with the twelve disciples. There needs to be order of positions on this Earth - in homes, in government and churches. As long as there is sin on Earth, God has ordained men to be the head but for some reason men fail to do their job God will elect a woman to do it. That doesn't mean God favors men over women. But when we are in Heaven, I believe that God will change the order, meaning that God himself will be the head of everything and we (men and women) will be at the exact same position in everything duty, in every calling. In God's eyes, there are no male or female - we are all one. In our soceity, I see God raising women up to do things that a man can do in preaching, teaching, and exercising authority over a man (but realize God has to be the one to ordain it not the woman).

If you look at the time they lived,Women had no rights. If you know your history, Women in the U.S didn't have rights for a certain time either. Its true now with certain cultures. If you continue to read the bible you'll read the part talking about how guys should treat women with respect and love them as a part of themselves. As usual this is proof of how people misuse the bible. Its a shame.

Good points.

Allow me to address the Eve being formed last thing. Did you notice, how in the Bible, each creation of living things got better and better. I've always learned that Eve was created last because woman was to be highest, crowning glory of the creation.

It's amazing how a little change of perspective really can alter the meaning found in these verses.

best wishes.

The Bible does teach differing responsibilities and hierarchical authority structures between men and women, but what is your point? It doesn’t mean that there is a value distinction between genders. God does not discriminate against women, but he does make different things for differing purposes and ends (Proverbs 16:4)

Keep in mind that the Bible was written by sexist men. They had the sheer audacity to represent God as being male. As if a man could handle the job.
