Jesus was, after all, responsible for the loss of his herd. Jesus sent the evil spirits into them.

No my friend, you are mistaken. If you read the story you will find that Jesus was about to cast the demons into the abyss, but the demons begged to be put into the swine. Jesus did not arbitrarily cast them into the pigs, He respected the foolish wish of the demons. And so, since the demons wanted to possess the swine then they should reimburse the swineherder. After all the question would remain, did the swine jump off the cliff because they could not bear such demons or did the demons drive them off the cliff?
If it were for the first reason, then the jumping off of the cliff was a saving act. I don't think possessed swine would sell for much. If it were the second reason then the demons are responsible for their demise. Therefore, the demons should reimburse the swineherder.
However, the point of the event is not if Jesus should reimburse the swineherder, but that He is Lord of all and even has power over the demons. That is the point and emphasis of the story.
May the Lord bless and keep you. May He let the light of His face shine upon you.

***Do you thin Jesus did or should have reimbursed the fellow that owned the 2000 pigs? ***

Yes, however 2000 is a bit high, it was the demons that were legion and not the pigs.

Matthew 8:
32.He said to them, "Go!" So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water. 33.Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. 34.Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.
Matthew 9:
1.Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town.

So, apparently the owners were satisfied and only requested that he leave, as far as we can tell.

Have a blessed day.

If someone had owned the herd of pigs, then according to Jewish tradition, he would have been sinning and therefore earning his living through sin. Would Jesus reimburse you if he stopped you from sinning?

However, I'm sure that if the herdsman were repentant, the Lord would have helped him find an honorable way of earning his living.

How do you know he didn't. The bible says that if everything Jesus did was written down that all the books in the world couldn't contain it. The important thing was that he cast out the demons and saved a man's life. I am of the opinion that he probably did reimburse the man, but that was not important enough to write down. God Bless You.

Jesus owns everything, including the 2000 pigs. Jesus is God and God owns everything because he created everything.

I've always wondered about that! (Although I've never heard that exact number mentioned.) Knowing Jesus, I'm sure He compensated the herdsman more than fairly. I look forward to hearing the story directly from Him in Heaven.

Hmmm, interesting thought, well, we know He was the kind of guy that paid His taxes to the Romans, so my guess would be (if they were owned by somebody) yes.
