I am an Orthodontist and probably can give you some suggestions. As one of the answer mentions, Rincinol will not help with pain. It is used for relief from Canker sores. Generally when you start treatment, the Orthodontist starts you will a wire called Ni Ti wires, which are super elastic wires. In my patients, I use the latest version of wires called Copper Ni Ti. Almost all the Ni Ti wires have thermal properties. They ten to relax with cold water, there by decreasing the pressure on your teeth. In all honesty, I would not recommend doing that, since that will delay your treatment time.

The pain should go away in a day or two. Take Tylenol and eat soft foods until pain subsides. Also use the wax on sore spots / brackets. I cannot suggest the colors but right now the most popular color in my office is Halloween colors. Hope that helps.

When I had braces I would take a pain reliever, tylenol or ibuprofen, that would help some. The pain usually takes a little bit to go away because your mouth isn't use to that kind of pressure. Since I only went to the dentist once a month to get my braces tightened I made sure the colors I got were gonna hold up that long. I'm talking about the color part and not the elasticity of the rubberbands. I suggest not getting the "clear" ones. They tend to turn yellow within a month's time. During football season I would get red and black for our school colors. If you want them to coordinate with your outfits then be sure to get the color(s) that you have a lot of in your wardrobe. I hope all this helps!

Well, depends on what kind of pain you're talking about. If the spikes are cutting your gums, you sticking something to them. Personally, I used pieces of fruit (changed them very frequently). If you mean that your jaw is aching from the pressure, just hang in there. It will end in a couple of days. This is a great chance to try out new kinds of soup. :-) Well, I never cared much for the coloured bands, but that depends on your taste and personality. Hope I could help.

Not sure what colors you should get, but try Rincinol for the pain. It's an oral rinse and it helps with braces pain.

swish with warm salt water , take tylenol and don't eat foods that you have to chew a lot to eat until you feel some better (like hamburgers, but rice , macaronni and banannas are good)
Pink and purple are cute, just don't get black or yellow it makes the teeth look a little rotten!

Get lime green. It's a fun color.

Or if you wear a certain color a lot (blue or pink or something) get that color or something that contrasts well.
