No. Long-haired dogs shed twice a year, just like wolves, so the coat can match the season.

Is shedding bad for humans? Look at your bathroom floor.
NO, shedding isn't bad unless it is accompanied with excessive scratching. That may be a sign of dermatitis or flea's. One look at the dogs back will give you an indication if there is a problem. Is the skin red? Is there dry and dead flaky skin? Is there bumps and bloody or oozing sores. If you said yes to any of these then get your dog to the vet. They can check for flea dermatitis or maybe your dog bot bit by a spider or is having a reaction to grass or other substance.

No it's not bad. I talked with my vet the other day because my dog is shedding right now and she said it's because it's been so hot lately they are getting rid of excess fur to stay cooler during the "dog days of summer." But if they are shedding big patches of fur I would take them to the vet because it could be a more concerning skin issue.

are you crazy? you honestly have to ask whether shedding is bad for a dog. The average dog sheds due to whether. When it gets hott it looses alot of hair so that it will stay cool during the summer....when its starts to get colder the body then begins to hold on the hair and thats how it stays warm during the winter. You have to think dogs dont run around in blankets and waterbottles all year

It all depends If a dog is in the cold or winter season a dog will get a thicker coat to stay warm. When in a warm season a dog will shed its coat to stay cool. My dog goes through it every year. But If the dog looses to much hair (like seeing bold spots) it could be bad. I think thats called mange??

It is nature's way of saying it is time for a haircut or a bath. It may also mean the dog is stressing out. There is a shampoo to cut the shedding down and a medicine also for the same purpose. But to answer your question, no. It is probably helping him cope with heat or a long shaggy do.

No,its not irregular for any dogs.
Unless,of course,you have a hairless chihuahua.
Thicker coats shed more, but if you take care of them by the
occasional brushing,it won't be as bad.

If it were bad for them it wouldn't be a perfectly healthy natural occurance, would it? Unless of course the dog is practically hairless, in which case I would definitely seek a second -doctor approved- opinion. =)

Too much shedding can be a sign of kidney failure. So unless it is shedding season your dog could have a problem. Our dog didnt have any hair on his belly or his little nub(tail) when we adopted him. I put him on organic dog food from newmans and now he is fine.
