To my knowledge only the Christians in Europe did. It took the Catholic Church until 1980's to apologize to Galileo for making him burn his own books on the subject in the 1400's. But the biggie one is: Giordano Bruno. If you ever want to know why the church is filled with nincompoops when it comes to science then and NOW check out his case. Also check out Erasmus, Stem Cell research, Salem Witch Trials, Spanish Inquisition. What they did in the past they do all through history. The march of idiot religious nuts knows no century and that applies to all superstitions: Islam, Christianity, Hindu ...ALL of them

I can't find anything about the torture of Round Earth proponents, but there was general skepticism and mistrust about the idea of the earth being round until the late middle ages. The round-earth idea first shows up in some ancient writings around 6th BCE.
There are many Bible verses that reference the "four corners" of the Earth, and other situations in which the things said in the Bible would not be possible without assuming the Earth were flat. Sources listed below.

Yes and for a whole lot of other contentious stuff, like being a witch. No the bible doesn't state either way, but religious leaders were scared of scientists because science can disprove some of the creation stories which are the basis for many religions.

Come on, back in the day, you could be punished for saying that the Earth was *not* the centre of the Universe. Back then people tended to think that things were as they literally saw them... today we see our surroundings which seem to be flat but we know that our collective home is spherical. It's just a case of perceptions.

Nope, The Bible say's in the old Testament that the Earth is round. so those who burned people at the stake could not have been Christians despite what they may have called themselves.
Isa 40:22 [It is] he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof [are] as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

Yes there were all sorts of religious types who went around murdering people and cutting their heads off and stuff if they disagreed with their beliefs. Do some resarch on the Spanish Inquisition as an example.

depends on where they were from im sure. cause people a loong time ago also believed that a god held the world on his back. im sure youve seen that picture. and him holding the world on his back was a sphere, it was not a flat circle. so co-existing with the earth was flat theory, also was the earth round in different parts of the world.

thinking that everyone back then thought the world was flat is myth. most everyone new the earth was round. all you have to do is look at the moon. if the earth was flat the earths shadow wouldn't look like that on the moon
