Limewire is free and illegal. But you will not get into any trouble as long as you do not download any of the illegal content. Like child porn. If you do, there is a good chance the cops could be knocking on your door. Literaly. It is a site to share music and the only ones who have a right to give you a hastle is the government itself. Just stay away from the porn and don't download too many in one day. And video downloads have a real good chance of having viruses, so I would stay away from that all together. But the site is illegal, but the government does not really care about the music. They do though about the porn and they do watch that site carefully. But you should have no probs with the music. It is only a matter of time before limewire gets shut down, so make your cds now before the site is dismantled.

Yes, it is illegal to download music from limewire, but tons of people still do it anyways because they believe it's untraceable. however, technology these days go far beyond what we may think. who knows, they may trace you through your ip address . downloading music is illegal and you can get fined $250,000 or get 5 years in jail.

i mean, music sellers, and artists are really stumped by all this downloading stuff. for every download, these musicians are losing money. people are downloading and sharing music for FREE online instead of going to a store and buying a cd. Musicians and record labels make money through those cds people buy, but people are just "stealing" it online.

i recently heard that a 12 year old girl and an 80 something year old man got caught for downloading music and faced serious penalties such as the $250,000 fine or the 5 years in prison.

so would you rather pay $15 at the store for a cd or risk getting fined $250,000?

if you're not too wealthy then i suggest listening to the radio, or going on yahoo music and listening to the free songs. you can even watch music videos and stuff.

To Mitchell_B:

Limewire isn't a SITE, its a program... and technically, anything copywritten is illegal to download.

Limewire itself, a file sharing program, is not illegal to have or to use... unless you use it to download anything illegal.

And I don't know where you got your info, perhaps some law enforcement officers do monitor some Limewire activity, but since its not a SITE where files are hosted, and they are shared from individual machines, then it is possible (I suppose) for them to focus on someone in particular and pay more attention to them...

If you download anything thats questionable, just dont' share it back out (move it, or delete it) that way it shouldn't even be an issue.

IF any can happen we'd all be locked up and fine for it. From what people say it is illegal, but what's been done before? Nothing. Limewire is still a good place to music download. FREE!

No, it isn't illegal to download music from Limewire, it's illegal to sell it.

Yes it could be condsidered an illegal transaction. Even though you have given no personal info your ip address (unless your using something to hide it)can be traced to the location you downloaded from.

Buy your music

No it's not, because it's a file sharing program. You're just receiving a file from someone else.
