I have hip pain in that feels like it's in the joint, while doing Pilated/Yoga, especially the excercises where the legs are spread (proud warrior etc) It feels as if the joint is burning and I am unable to keep the leg up. Also after I jog my left hip is sore and tight. I walk around afterwords limping. i feel so old! I am in average shape, not overweight. I had the hip x rayed and it came back normal. The dr. told me to take tylenol and basically deal with it. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated!!

Hey, forgot to add, my left leg is about 1 longer than right, and I have an orthotic in the right shoe. I have worn it for about 2 months but the pain is still there.

check to see that your IT band is not tight. Go to massage therapist or trainer. IT tightness usually displays itself in women in the hip, and in men on the outside of the knee. It is easily correctable.

IF IT IS TIGHT- the way to loosen it is to grab one of those foam rollers at the club, lie on your side with your leg supported by the roller, and roll out the side of your quad (that's the IT). This massages and loosens the WHOLE muscle rather than a stretch which just pulls at the ends...which are located on the side of the knee and the side of the hip.

Ask one of the trainers for more info on it. It is common, it is correctable, and it doesn't require tylenol. In fact...i would recommend a doctor that is more fitness oriented than the one you have. Pain relievers relieve pain...they don't relieve the cause of the pain. It is shortsighted of him/her to say "take some tylenol and deal with it".

I can send websites for the product and the stretch if you want...

You didn't say how old you are, but it sounds dangerously close to arthritis in your hips. It doesn't have to be due to old age, though--if you've regularly done activities which are hard on the joints (like jogging), that can bring it on when you're younger. And if it is arthritis, there are anti-inflammatories for very severe pain, but for the most part, your doctor is right--Tylenol is what's usually recommended.

Take it a little easier when that happens. Keep up the exercise, but not when it hurts. If you trust that doctor, do what he says. Maybe see another one if the problem continues. I'm 61 and I've had some of the same. I think I should lose weight and to do that I must keep exercising. But when it hurts, maybe a different type of exercise is needed, at least for a while. Good luck to us!

Try taking Aleve an hour or two before you work out, it seems to work better than tylenol, and stretch for 10 minutes extra as well, I have the same pain your describing. Good Luck!

Go to a foot dr. & get some orthotics for inside your shoe's. We all have one hip that is a teeny bit higher than the other & that's what's causing your pain.
