An ***

On their way to Bethlehem Joseph and Mary get mugged by Bacchus and Gabriel.
Joseph held back the death-ray as everyone else tried to get Mary’s *** in gear.
"Damn it, Balaam, you still aren't hitting that note! I'll smack you in the nuts if you don't get it right this time!" -- an0n
"Look out! Blind angel comin' through! One touch and it's straight to hell. Blind angel comin' through!" -- an0n
[Donkey] Well, at least the long rubber gloves haven't come out yet... -- Crash
Just when Mary thought things couldn’t get much worse an angel showed up and poked her in the eye with a sharp stick.
Here we see Mary struggling to get up off her fat lazy ***.

Joseph was not a poor man, t He was a Carpenter, they came to pay their taxes. if he had a animal of any kind, I would say he owned it.

They were pretty poor, so a relative probably loaned them the donkey. And he was a good little donkey, wasn't he? ( or she)

According to the Bible and pictures I've seen! : )
If you believe the stories in the Bible, that were passed along like in the telephone game and eventually written down, then yes.
