No one the US has natural protective barriers TWO Oceans from both sides. But here the consideration on who has that type of weapon leads to Russia and only Russia. Some other countries like N Korea, China, or what the US calls as terrorist groups and even so the damage they can inflict is minor least of saying trivial. Due to that sense of safety in the past no US administration was involved in developing good and efficient defensive systems, and that was clear after the 1973 war Arab/ISRAEL since all the American Air Might was dissolved over a world war II system of Air Defence, which lead to the development of Stealth Technology.

The only nation I could see doing that is Iran, or maybe North Korea.

The only reason they would is if we declared war on Iran for their refusal to give up their nuclear ambitions, and their funding of Hezbollah and Al-quaida in Iraq. And if Iran declared war on Israel, we would get involved and could possibly be hit with retaliation.

Or if North Korea invaded South Korea, then we would proboably get involved on the side of South Korea. And North Korea has a missle that could possibly hit L.A.

China is a slight possibility, they have said that if they take back the Republic of Taiwan, then any interference on the US's part would result in them retaliating with a nuclear strike. It is proboably just a hollow threat, though.

To tell the truth, besides the U.S., only a few countries have the capability of launching long range nuclear capable missiles, which are also called ICBM. Most of them are your allies (England, France, Israel). The other countries that have ICBM´s are Russia and China. North Korea, Pakistan and India only have short and medium range missiles (which are very likely to malfunction due to bad manufacturing/technology). It may come as a surprise to you, but Iran doesn´t have nuclear weapons yet. They are in the VERY EARLY devolpment stages.

the only nation state that has the capacity to deliver a weapons payload against the USA are Israel, China, Cuba, England, France Ukraine. No Axes of Evil nations could do this.

Terrorists could easily deliver weapons to the USA using "non-missle alternatives"

but of course simple missles could be launched into continental US from Canada and Mexico ...

I think the shorter list would be which ones will not hit the USA with missiles! Most of the world does not like us.

No nation that has any sense of self preservation will launch a pre-emptive strike on this country, having said that there is a far more likely scenario.
A terrorist orginazation exploding a "dirty" bomb in this country, an organization such as Hezbollah that recieves its weapons and funding from terrorist states such as Iran.

In My Opinion Islamists (hezbollah, alqaide,.....) will hit USA with missils because they will launch their missils from inside of USA.

I still think that missiles hitting the US are still far off. There's a lot of fear and anger feeding that fear. Lets remember what terrorists do best. They create an act of violence that catches every ones attention, then exploits it to create fear of another attack, gaining them notoriety and power. They feed on that fear to get their objectives across or executed.

Even though N. Korea may have the capabilities, I think deep down they know if they tried anything, we would freakin kill them. End of story. We have troops in S. Korea for a reason... and I don't think we'd hesitate to bring the pain if they hit us.
