if you go to wal-greens there is some stuff in a little tiny bottle, i forget what it's called but it's in the same section as like oragel and anbesol but its not that, the brand of it is "red cross" and it come with like a little tiny box of cotton balls (for in case you have to put it inside your tooth like in an open cavity or something)...but anyways, if you can stand the taste of it (its REALLY gross, way worse than oragel) then it works FANTASTIC...your pain will be gone in like 15 seconds...and it will stay for longer than oragel and such...also if you can't find that stuff they also say clove oil will work the same way cause basically that is what is used to make that stuff, it's very strong though so it will taste nasty but fully worth it if you are in that much pain, trust me i have 2 broken teeth right now that hurt all the time and i can't afford to have them worked on

If a tooth that has had a rootcanal in the past begins hurting to the point that Tylenol is not helping, then there is a very good chance that the rootcanal is reinfected and you will either need to have the rootcanal redone or have the tooth pulled. There is nothing that you can do to protect the tooth, the damage is already done. But try taking Tylenol and 2 hours later Advil. They are two different types of ingredients in them. Also try alternating cold and heat packs.
But make sure before you request a crown be placed on the tooth, that it has not reinfected. That would be a waste of time and money to crown the tooth, and then later have to drill through it or cut it off to redo the rootcanal.

I really wish that I could help you with this question but I am going to have a root canal done next month. My advice is if this si something that cannot wait until you get the appointment, call the dentist to have the appointment moved up to a much sooner date or contact another who has a sooner opening and get it taken care of as soon as possible. Until then, try and Oral Analgesic from the local drug store or ask a pharmacist for something that will help. Good luck and great patience.

If you had a root canal- the tooth is dead so all that stuff won't work. Go to a dentist. The root canal may have failed.
You need an x-ray to evaluate if the tooth is still good.

Where does it really hurt? inside the tooth? around the tooth?
if the Dentist performed a root canal , he sealed it as well. is this the case? did the filling fall apart?

If you had a root canal on the tooth, I don't see how it could be hurting you. They take out the root of the tooth therefore there should be no pain. Unless it's the gum around the tooth infected.Go see your dentist.

Bad patient!! You brought this on yourself!! Hopefully, this tooth is not re-infected because if it is then it will need another root canal. Bummer
