Try "Elements of power system analysis" by Stevenson - this is as elementary as it gets. For a little more detail, you may want to read the book by Prabha Kundur.

The "Elements of Power System Analysis" book mentioned above is exceptionally well written on the topic of power distribution systems.

Another well-done introductory text is "Electric Machinery Fundamentals" by Stephen Chapman. It has concise chapters on three-phase circuit basics, transformers and power electronics. The meat of the book is in the theory and operation of generators and motors of nearly all types.

Also, if you like the high-voltage engineering aspect of electrical power check out "High Voltage Engineering: Fundamentals (2000)" by E. Kuffel, W. Zaengl, and J. Kuffel.
