My dog cost $73 per month that is including food, flea and heart worm preventative, and routine medications. That does not cover treats, toys, vet expenses, etc. Animals can be expensive so if you don't have the finances to properly maintain, you shouldn't get a pet.

A Pug usually costs 5 to 6 hundred to buy from a reputable breeder. They don't eat a whole lot, so if you go even with premium food it will be less than 20 dollars per month. NO, vet costs are NOT covered by work benefots. It is a pet, not a child! Vet fees vary by location. Our Pug is 8 months old, he cost 600 to purchase and we probably have another 400 in vet bills thus far.

I adopted both my puppies. Bailey was $165.00 and Rylee was $125.00. Both had their first shots and were neutered/spayed (respectively). Purebred dogs are very expensive. Shelter dogs are the way to go I say, because they need homes the most. The first two months were more expensive because they have to get vaccinations in succession, like we did when we were children. It was about $50.00 every month (each puppy) for the first three months just for shots. Also, food is more expensive as puppies because they eat more because they are growing. I chose the best food I could find (after a ton of research) called Innova, and it is also very expensive. My puppies eat through a 20 pound bag in one week (the bag costs $30.00) that is $120.00 in food alone. Then of course I like to spoil my pups and buy them treats and toys probably about every week, but I would guess that's about $20.00. So, all in all in a month I spend about $200-250 now that they are done with their shots. But every year they have to have more shots. And you never know about their health either. My 5 month old, Bailey was throwing up and had diarrhea and I was so worried, and so the vet bill cost $150.00 for that one visit because he did not have parvo, but they did an x-ray on him to see if his insides were okay, so that's what cost so much. You have to be committed, they definitely cost money, but they are the loves of my life.

The initial cost of our pug was $600. To be on the safe side you need another $200 for start up shots and spay/neutering. Then depending on how spoiled your dog is monthly treats and toys can get pretty expensive. You should also make sure that you've got money set aside in case of emergencies. It may sound like a lot but it's all worth it for the love and friendship you receive in return!!

www.spca.bc.ca/AnimalCare/petcost.asp

This is a guide only. It's in canadian dollers, and shows an adoption from the spca. It doesn't show the cost of a pure bred dog, just your average shelter dog. If you can't view this, I'll try to find some other info for you.
The vet is NOT covered by your work. However, you can buy "pet insurance" through your vet's office that can cost less or more depending on breed and age.
Good Luck

No pets are not covered by your work benefits. they do have pet insurance you can buy for them though. You can spend anywhere from $0 to $1000 for a pup/dog depending on what breed and where you get it. Pups cost more than adults. It will be anywhere from $100 to $200 every 2-3 weeks for vaccines for a pup until they are 3 months old. Food will depend on how much you are willing to spend. A good quality of food like Iams will be about $30 for a 40 pound bag wich will last about 1 month, depending on how much the dog eats. If its a pup you will need puppy food until they are a year old. Toys are another one that depends on how much your willing to spend. My dogs love Kongs wich are abou $10each. We have a Kong and Kong ball. You will also need to plan for emergencies, wich can get really expensive.

i am sorry but no employer is going let you place an animal on your benifits. sorry that's just the trueth. but depending on the type of dog your looking to buy it could be anywhere from 100 - 2500.00 to purchase. in all honesty you should adopt thier's lots of animals out thier and it is cheeper also the spay or nueter is covered under your adoption fee. along with the first your of shots. smaller dog isn't going to cost as much as a larger dog would as think about the area that you live. do you have a yard for a larger dog to run? and you should ask lots of questions when you check out a dog. all breeds are differnt in personality and every thing. good luck.

It depends on what size dog your puppy will grow into. If it is a bigger dog then it will eat more. Some dogs require a lot of vet visits as well. Some are more prone to health probelms. I have two labs and they probably cost me a few thousand a year. Mine are healthy but still eat a lot! We go through two large bags of dog food about every month and a half. Hope that gives you some insight.

There's an excellent article along with a chart at this site:
http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1671&articleid=1543

A dog or puppy can be as little as $20 from a pound (who will not provide spay/neuter or vaccinatins) to $150 from a shelter (who will include spay/neuter and vaccinations with that price), to $500-$1000 from a reputible breeder.

DO NOT BUY A DOG FROM A PET STORE OR FROM 'JUST SOME PERSON'. Shelters or reputible breeders only!!!

Dogs can cost somewhere around 400 to 500 dollars, maybe more or less. You ask how much will it cost you monthly? Maybe 100 dollars, depends what you want to buy for your dog. Perhaps less than 100 dollars a month if its a smaller dog (not counting vet charges)
