I'm a 13 year old girl, and I'm just biting off more than I can chew! I'm an an advanced program at school, with 2-4 hours of homework anight, and I do gymnastics 5 days a week! I'm exhausted at the end of the day and I'm averaging 6 hrs. or sleep a night. I know something's gotta give, but I love gymnastics and I love learning quickly! And on top of all that, I keep getting sick from lack of sick and losing weight. The doctor says I need to gain some, but I jsut don't have any appetite anymore. I have great friends, but now they ALL go to a different school than I do and I rarely see them. I thought things would be better in the summer, but I just have extra gymnastics practice plus summer tennis team AND a ton of summer homework. Help!

I think you should see if you could cut back on the hours that you attend gymnastics each day or see if you could go to practice less days per week.
But if you ultimately have to make a choice between sacrificing your schoolwork (like grades) or your gymnastics, schoolwork must come first.
During the school year, you could work on your homework during the lunch period, which might get about 30 minutes of it out of the way. Also see if you could take a study hall in place of a class, and make sure to actually do work during the study hall. My county doesn't let any of the advanced students take study hall, though, so I'm not sure if your school will. Also, make use of any short breaks that you might have to study. Then you will get to bed sooner.

Have you considered an independent study program? A lot of higher level or devoted gymnasts go into independent study programs. These allow you to move as fast as you can handle or want, and you can study at your own pace and in your own time. Think about how much time you spend getting ready for school and traveling there and back! If you could cut down on that and work at your own pace then prehaps you would have more free time to do stuff with your friends and you wouldnt need to burn yourself out!

Honey. I know what you are going through. I also was in advanced classes growing up. I was also involved in cello lessons, ballet class, modern dance class, and orchestra rehearsals. All anyone can ask of you is to do your best. SOmetimes, you may have to make a sacrifice and miss a gymnastics class in order to get your homework done. If possible, try working on some of your homework from early classes during your lunchtime. That's what I did. I also took my books with me to my afterschool activities, and did my homework between activities. It saved me a lot of time at night, and was able to get enough sleep.
Do not dispair. Life doesn't get easier, but it does become more manageable with time. Keep your head up. You are doing an awesome job with what you've got going for you.

see if you can ask your gymnastic teacher if u can attend only 3-4 days a week because you are under alot of stress. you could play some relaxing tapes or buy a sound machine to use for listening while going to sleep. treat yourself to a day out with friends. go to the spa like a real lady. have a family member give u a massage. or just cry or scream and let it all out. i am so sorry that you have so much pressure. how about a trip to the mall? or set some freetime aside for yourself to do something you love to do. sounds like u need a vacation. and remember no matter how much stress u are under u are important to ur friends and family. don't give up! just set aside some freetime!

Take a deep beath and settle down, I applaud you for being so commited. You need to realise that, at the end of the day, all this hard work will pay off and you will be a better person in our society. Good luck.

Cut down on your advance classes a bit and try to limit the hours you are in the gym, its not quitting its just slowing down a bit. Take a vacation right away if you can.
