One day you dropped a thumbtack on the floor, you search but can not find, months go by and one of your friends who happens to be a diabetic enters the hospital for a sore that won't heal . It becomes so infected, they had to remove her leg from knee down. Later you are told she stepped on a tack that was found in her foot that caused the infection What would you do, tell her you are the one who dropped the tack, or remain silent?

Thumbtacks fall... blame gravity. If you really felt bad about it, I guess you can tell your friend, but at the same time, it's not your fault. Diabetics are always warned that they should wear proper footwear at ALL TIMES and that they should inspect their feet daily. So she clearly didn't do that, and now she is suffering the consequences of not listening to the doctor's orders.

You have to consider what would be gained by such an admission. What would your intention be? Also, there are a lot of thumbtacks in the world! How can you be certain it was yours? Accidents happen. You tried to find the tack you dropped. End of story. It would be weird to tell her some dramatic story that may be groundless about how you may have caused her to lose her leg, because likely, in fact, you did not. If we slip on an acorn that a squirrel left behind, are they at fault? Certainly not. Telling her would not help the situation. It is tragic, but unfortunately this stuff happens. Best of luck to your friend!

As long as you searched for the tack, you have done what you could do. It is not your fault that this happened, it is just an unfortunate event. I would not say anything becuase in this day and age the woman might sue you for something beyond your control.

I believe that you owe it to her to let her know where the tack came from. Because if you were in her place you would want her to tell you Right!!!! And after you tell her about it, Just say that you deeply apologize for it has done to you and i hope we can remain friends. And I know that she would appreciate that very much.

It really depends on what you're trying to achieve by telling her this, doesn't it? Are you wondering whether you have some moral obligation to tell her? Did you drop the darn thumbtack on purpose? did you make her step on it? I don't understand your dilemma...yet. Let me think some more, I'll get back to you....

Can you prove that the tack came from your home?

it could have come from anywhere.
How did she step on a tack and not know?
Barefoot in your apartment?

Ease up on yourself, if she is that prone to infection she could have pick up anything at anytime.
