my 2 oldest boys will be starting preschool, and i need to label ther clothing tags... i figured a permanent black sharpie would work, but besides their last name, is their anything else i should put? i am using the last name because they are in the same class and wear the same size- but the next thing is our last name is Ralph.... if there is a kid in the class with that name, well, you can see the delimma... should i try to squeeze in our phone #? tags are so small.... or do you guys think the last name would be sufficiant?

Just use a small sharpie and put their last name. You can put their first initial if you want. No need for the phone number. This is what I have the parents do in my preschool classroom. They will appreciate you doing it! I often have a hard time getting my student's parents to do this.

The last name will be fine. I think you'd have a hard time finding a kid with the first name, "Ralph" these days. As far as the marker, Sharpie makes a laundry marker called "Rub a Dub." It is designed not to wash out of clothing...however it does fade over a long period of time..just re-write it when that happens.

Since my son's name is Michael, I have gone with just putting in his last name or just his three initials. Also putting their names somewhere other than the tag is a good idea too. Like inside the bottom of the shirt or sleeve? Also if it's on a jacket, then inside the pocket is a good place too!

First & last name are sufficient. Don't use a permanent black sharpie though. It comes off on their skin. I speak from experience. Use a fabric marker. You can get them pretty cheap in any craft store. Also, you can search for "personalized clothes labels" and get tons of iron on ones.

Use Rub a Dub, this is what the kindergarten teacher recommended for the kids in her class. Use first initial and last name or just all initials.

You can put their first initial and their last name. That would work fine. And FYI if you check your local craft store, they have special permanant markers that are for fabric tags that will last thru washings.

you are thinking way too much about it... initials would be fine. the chance of another kid that has same initials as yours AND the same clothes is very rare. Better yet, you can just make a symbol, like a circle, square or triangle or something.

I would put 1st initial and last name. But, If you REALLY want to get ambitious, then you can buy at most fabric stores little iron on tags that might say something like THIS BELONGS TO: _____
Good luck!!!
