You should be having protein both before and after your workout. If the muscle milk is fairly high in carbs (I don't know the nutrient facts), you'll want to save it for after your workout (your post workout drink should be high in high-glycemic carbs to restore your glycemic stores. Also, high-glycemic carbs cause a fast insulin spike which drives the needed nutrients into your muscles).

You can take it both before and after, but it's a good idea to mix up your protein sources - depending on what muscle milk's protein source is (whey, soy, egg, calcium caseinate), you might want to try a different protein shake with a different protein source. Different sources also absorb at different rates, so you might want to have a protein shake with a slower absorbing protein (calcium caseinate if you're doing endurance or soy), and save a faster absorbing protein (whey or egg) for after your workout.

I'd recommend it. It's worked better for me than those whey only powders.

It's hard for me to gain weight and I gained 8lbs in 8 weeks with it while keeping by body fat percentage at about 9%, which I'm satisfied with.

This is how I use muscle milk, but I don't know if this is the most optimum way to use it. I take some in the morning after waking up with breakfast. Then again before my workout usually with a PB sandwich, then afterwards usually with eggs and cottage cheese. I always mix with milk.
