My dad passed away 15 years ago...I was only 13 then and wasn't given much information. I can't ask my mother because she passed away 8 years ago,and my dad's family is no longer in touch.

Hey bbb7978,

May not be public, but there are a number of ways to get information about him in the military. If your father is alive, I doubt they will release the records to you. If he has passed on, you should be able to get some information.

See the sites below.

If you have his name , branch of service, years that he served, ie 1975-1978, contact the branch records for that branch of service. You might also try the Veterans administration and get a benefits handbook. In the back of the book it will give you the address of where to send for a copy of the records. It is also possible that the local VFW can help you also--ask for an omsbudsman.

With the heightened security surroubnding terrorism, the military doesn't release much info about anything these days, especially about specific personnel. If you know where he is, why not just write him, or telephone him.

you can contact the miltary, for his records. I found someone a couple of years ago. You will need name/last known address/dob. You might need more than that, but that can be your starting point.

Check the Social Security Death Index and that will probable give you birth and death date and place of death. Then you can go on from there.
