skin is a big organ:
protective against germs, and other offending factors as heat (by a reflex mechanism involving the sense), heat regulatory mechanism(sweat), has the appendages (nail, hair )..

the major function of our skin is protection of underlying tissues from damage .this is helped by great number of highly sensitive pain receptors that elicit reflexes to get the body away from injorious agents .same way for hot and cold receptors.another important function of skin is excretion of excess water ,electrolytes and nitrogenous compounds through sweat glands . skin also acts as a store for important nutritional compound like vitamin D that should be activated in skin by ultraviolet rays from the sun to take it's effect in bone growth

it has may benefit,
first it is first line of protection, as mechanical barrier, so without skin you can not stand on your raw foot-bone
and it keep the body temperature as barrier and by sweating and vasodialation in hot and vasoconstriction of the cutaneous cerculation in cold wether,
skin has the sensation ending for touch and temperature and others sensation,
skin has the hair which give also protection for the eyes from the light and foregin body and sweats, also on the head, and it decrease the laceration in hot climate as in axilla
the skin give us the different external apperance and different colour,
by skin only we can diffrentiate all the people in world, guess how!! by finger prints

Our skin holds in water and other liquids we drink and it also prevents germs from entering our bodies and damaging our internal organ (heart, lungs, kidneys, ect.).
Human anatomy ifo: We have 3 parts to our skin: Dermis (top layer), where you see your skin color, epidermis, & fatty layer, where the meat, blood vessels and other skin components mostly are.

Our skin is our packaging. Without the wrapping we would fall apart. It is also for protection and ridding our body of impurities etc. This is my answer and I'm sticking to it.
