A six speed manual if offered is superior to a 5 speed, except for the fact that you have one more shift to make ( and that's not even a disadvantage). A six speed will keep you at peek rpm through the gears easier than a five speed. It's also better for fuel economy. I don't know of any advantages for a 5 speed rather than a 6 speed.

advantage of a 6 speed is a close ratio between gears. pulling a heavy load means you will put less strain on the engine. You will have to shift more often but get better gas mileage.

in a sports car go for the 5-speed
in a truck go for the 6-speed

A 6 speed will operate at lower RPM on freeway driving. It all depends on what the car was designed with. If the car has a 5 speed then that would be the over drive that you would use of interstates. If it comes with 6 speeds then that would be your OD.

The more gears that you have the better gas mileage you will get on the highway. More gears allow the engine to work less while maintaining speed thus using less gas. There are a few passenger vehicles that have 7 gears. Lower gears are pulling gears and the higher gears are maintaining speed gears. I hope this answers your question.

The six speed transmission will have work a lot easier versus the 5 speed.......think of a ladder you are about to use to climb up on a really high area.......there are two ladders and the same length ....one has six steps and the other has only 5......which one would be the easiest to climb the same distance??

There isn't a whole lot of difference. 6 speeds tend to be geared more closely so you can keep it at the peak of the powerband a little more easily. They're also a little more work because you have an extra gear to get into.

That extra gear can cost more. However, depending on what the ratio is of the extra speed, you will get either better fuel economy, higher top speed, or more power off of the line.

5 speed cars are slow and don't give fast driving fun but the 6 speed car can give you speeding tickets
