You should probably secure all doors and windows. Remember cats only usually want to escape if they are not happy where they are or if they're curious about the outside world. Cat's can be VERY curious!

I checked your original post, but neither of them mentioned how he got out. It is possible that once was enough for him and he's happy to be home, specially since he is declawed and was probably quite vulnerable out there.
Since you probably can't gaurantee he won't escape or get accidently let out again you should probably take precautions for the possibility. If you can afford it, microchip him. If not, a good collar with his name and your phone number on it may be enough. Make sure the collar is one that will detach itself in event that he gets hung up on a fence or other obstruction. It's better for him to be missing again without the collar than to strangle himself.
Glad you have him back and good luck :)

It depends on what his experiences were when he got out. If he didn't like being hungry or was frightened by something he might not want to venture out on his own again.
Did he just return on his own -- that is actually good because he will know his way home if he gets out again.

Depends, if you were doing something that he didnt like he may have wanted to escape. I have 2 kittens and one of them is DYING to go outside. My suggestion, if your cat really wants to go outside, try putting it on a harness and leash and letting it walk around outside. They sell cat halters, but if you cant find one, try a small dog harness.

If you cat is not spayed or neutered, then you can bet it will try to excape again. Spay/neuter tends to make them not wander off from home as much. Good luck.

do your best to keep him inside and he won't. when going out throw a toy and your cat will chase it and you can get out safely and same thing for going in.
