R & B is rythym & blues...it's soulful music that is sung by mostly black people but anyone with soul can sing it. I have never heard of an Eric Clapton song that was R & B. He's more of a rock star at least that's how Yahoo music classifies him. Examples of good R&B would be Anthony Hamilton's Charlene, Jagged Edge's Walked Right Outta Heaven, India.Arie's The Truth, Aretha Franklin's Ain't No Way, Patti Labelle's If You Don't Know Me By Now, etc.

It means Rhythm and Blues (Eric Clapton for example). I have NO IDEA why youngsters call their irritating, lifeless music R&B.

R & B = Rhythm and Blues
p.s. Geez, folks, can't you learn how to spell "rhythm" correctly??!? I am sorry to vent right now, but I haven't seen that word butchered this badly in YEARS!
rhythm = r - h - y - t - h - m
Only two out seven answers even spelled it correctly! Sheesh!
