OK, God ordered Abraham to sacrifice his son. How many of you would do as he did and really do it (yes, I know God stopped him, but he was going to do it). If you knew for a fact that god talked to you and told you to slay your child, who would do it? If you don't have kids, say so and then say if you think you would.

Some people are saying that they would know they were crazy to hear somthing like this and thus wouldn't do it. I am saying if you KNEW you were being told by God to kill your child would you do it?
Also ignore the point of Jesus being the last sacrifice, just focus on the fact that you know God is asking you to slay your child(whether this is moral or not). Would you go against God's wish, or would you do it?

Unfortunately God does not ask us to do things today in the “Big voice from the sky… Burning bush…”operandi. If omnipotent God really wanted me to sacrifice something, he would also provide the strength to do it. I would do what Abraham did. I’d look around and find the nearest lamb, grasshopper, or soda pop can, whatever… and sacrifices it. Rationalizing, again like Abraham, that this must be a sign, thus the will of God. The important thing is to understand the message of the text you refer to in context. Lets say you lost two children and your spouse. Perhaps you feel it was your fault. Perhaps you lose your faith, blame God, and can’t recover. The Passages you refer to are used to help people understand that they must put their faith in God above all else. As in, you would trust God that there was some positive reason for the loss when viewed on the eternal scale. Otherwise you end up drowning your kids and going to institutionalized incarceration, as was recently the case with Yates who Quote “Couldn’t connect the dots.”

This question shows true evil nature of slavery that was common practice in those times submitting ones self to a higher power is just another way saying 'I'm a slave"
The correct answer is NO! PERIOD!!!!!
Abraham was violating the law, because there was no justifiable reason to kill his son.
It doesn't matter that Abraham didn't know the law,
the law thou shall not murder was given by Moses after Abraham died.
But because god uses this law to judge all of mankind retroactively in the future on judgment day,
Abraham is still guilty of violating the law.
And it does not matter if he was stopped,
its not the action but the thought that gets you condemned.
If Ur god asks u to do this,
tell him "you created this person if you want him dead !YOU KILL HIM!"
i don't have kids

To understand this passage, you need to understand the promises made to Abraham. God promised Abraham that through him, and his son, a nation would be built. Therefore, Abraham was obedient because he trusted the promises of God. Notice this verse:
Gen 22:5 And Abraham said to his young men, You stay here with the ***. I and the boy will go over there that we may worship and may return to you.
Abraham stated that were going to worship and that they would return. Abraham, knowing the promise of God, was confident that even if he slayed his son, God would restore him. It is a test for us to never withhold anything from God, since He owns it all anyway.

No, because I would know that God didn't talk to me. I would check myself in a Psychiatric ward.
I'm serious. Jesus was the final sacrifice. That means no more sacrifices need to be made. That means that if I'm hearing "God" telling me to sacrifice my own child, I know I'm going crazy, because there is no further need for sacrifice.

God do not tell people to kill their children. The Abraham story should not be taken literally; Abraham must have thought that God wanted him to kill his Son; God stopped him to show him that God do not encourage Murder or suicide.
Sacrificing humans is of pagan roots.

That was done Before Christ because the only way to be able to speak to God was throught a sacrafice. But no one should have to sacrafice because Jesus Christ wasand is the ultimate sacrafice. If you hearing voices the best way to determined if is God speaking ask your self simple questions. The Bible says that the Devil comes to kill, destroy. Jesus comes to restore and to give life and to save what was lost.

I do have children and I couldn't sacrifice them. I feel guilty saying so after what he did for me. But it's the truth. It would be easier to sacrifice myself.

I don't have kids, but I think I would. (It actually came up, when Crusaders were going to steal all the Jewish children and raise them as christians, the great Rabbis told parents to kill the children. They did.)
