I have a 7month old female golden retriever, and we are gettting her spayed soon and i was just wondering will she change?
like she barks at people who comes by our house and jogs by, and she is very active. and if we spay her will she be the same? because my friend got her dog PJ fixed and he wasnt the same he's just isnt the same, and i wouldnt want my dog to be like that i would like her to be her self because if she changes then it'lll be a little werid, and such.
So if i spayed my dog will her personality and behavior change??
Thanks Shela.

I read today that most dogs bone structure keeps growing until about the age of three unless they are spayed. If they are fully spayed at a younger age some of their bones may be completely developed while others may not be. You may want to check with your vet about this and find out about new partial spaying techniques that will prevent this from happening. Also, it's been my experience with female dogs after spaying that they have bladder control issues. Get all the facts and then decide when and how to spay your dog.

Spaying you dog will not change her behavior unless you change the way you treat her. In other words if you feel sorry for her or think that she might change, you might start acting differently and then she will change.
Spaying her is a very good thing overall. There are far too many dogs and cats without homes just because people dint get them fixed. Also, she will have less of a chance of getting some kinds of illnesses such as certain tumors and cancers.

Spaying her will not change her personality. She is still young though, so she will mellow out some as she ages. It is great that you are getting her spayed...there are too many pets in the world that need homes!
It will depend where you have the procedure done at. At some hospitals it can cost anywhere from $150-$500 depending on the area and if you decide to do blood work/fluids/vaccines(?)/pain meds. (some places these are not optional). You can also check at the SPCA. Sometimes they do low cost spay and neuter clinics. I would call around to your local vet. hospitals and try and get some estimates.

Price varies from vet to vet, the larger the dog the more it costs. Spaying will mellow them out some but it doesn't really change them. Males will stop being so aggressive and wanting to go find females, but the females just tend to settle in a bit. She will still romp and play and bark at strangers. They need 25% fewer calories after they are spayed so cut back on her food so she doesn't get overweight. Good luck.

A lot of people think that altering really changed their pets personality not because it actually did but because of the time of life most people get their dogs altered at. Dogs, like humans, go through a lot of changes as they grow into adults, from playful puppy to bratty adolescent to mature adult. People often get their pets altered during teh adolescent phase and this is a time in which a dog's adult personality starts to come out more and become solidified.
Altering can change a dog a little but usually for the better. Altered dogs are less likely to be aggressive and territorial, and male dogs who are neutered are less likely to mark their territory. Unaltered females can be very, well, b!tchy. Altering also makes it easier for yoru dog to interact with other dogs. Unaltered dogs often get territorial and testy with one another. Altered dogs have a better chance of getting along.

I have a 4-yr-old Goldend Retriever, and we had her spayed at 6 months. She didn't change at all. She's just as sweet and playful as ever. Your dog may change a bit as she grows up, but it won't be because she was spayed. Enjoy your baby!

your dog will probably change a little, calm down i suppose. if do do not spay her then it will be very difficult for you to look after her when on heat. not only will she bleed when on heat but she will also attract male dogs in the area, miles away actually and that is not good. not only will you have dogs outside your house( if she is an outdoor dog). you will also have male dogs trying to follow you whenever you take her for a walk because they want to mate with her. i think it is better to have her spayed unless you plan to breed her.

Personality wise your dog will not change. However, there will be some minor physical changes. For example, every female dog I have ever owned and had spayed has always gained weight.

Male dogs exhibit far greater personality changes after they are neutered than female dogs do. Our female beagle did not have any personality change after her spay surgery. A day later she was the same puppy she was before.
