The real question here is "Why are you so pressured to impose gender-related rules on your sister because she is not following accepted norms?"

In other words, is society such a strong influence on you that you feel the need to translate that onto your relationship with your sister and actually try to change her? Is she happy being a tomboy? Why would you want to make her unhappy so she can look all dolled-up and pretty?

What you should do is be an influence through example... and if she looks up to you and decides she wants to be like you, things will happen naturally. As long as she isn't endangering herself or anyone in the family, leave her to grow as she wishes. :)

Don't worry about it-

I was a tomboy up until I was 16- I played sports, never wore skirts, no make-up, I got into fights w/ boys, etc.

But then, I don't even know what hit me but all of the sudden I just changed when I was about 16. I think it had to do with discovering boys! Even though I had my first b/f when I was 13, but I think around 16 I discovered on my own how I loved being a girl!

Lots of girls go thru this but it's just a phase in discovering their identity. Right now I'm even more feminine then my sister & she never was a tomboy to begin with. You really should just let your sister be.

Hey...why not just let her be her if those are the things she enjoys doing...when I was little I used to climb trees, build things, race my bike around with my friends that were mainly boys..have'm over any hang out playing pool and swimmin' in my yard. I did a lot with my dad..and always thought it was more interesting than a lot of things the woman in my family did plus I learned a lot.
...I still will pick a pair of shorts over a dress anyday! And don't discourage her with sports...it's great exercise...much more of a calories burner than say..lady-like knitting! And if she's ganging out with guys too...more power to her..maybe she'll learn about how to fix her own car someday. That's a good thing for a woman to know how to do. High five to your sister...I haven't meet her but I think we'd get along great!

Just love her for who she is...not what she is!

First of all there is nothing wrong with your sister. There are grown women that still have that tomboy trait. Let her be herself and enjoy being a tomboy and when it comes time for her to act lady like, she will do it on her own time.

Your sister being a tom boy has nothing to do with you that is her preference, let me say that first. But when she is ready to act like a "lady" she will, just let her be her.

Just be her sibling and love her for who she is. If she is happy and content with the way she is, leave her be. Why would you try to enforce you ideals of what a girl should be on her, don't give her a complex because of your issues.

Why are you trying to force her into acting in a certain way? Quit being so controlling and let her enjoy her life.

Dont rush her let her grow out of it on her own by the time she does all that running around her body will be the bomb and she wont want to put them big clothes on any more

How old is your sister?

Sports are not bad...I myself did alot of them during my youth days...But everyone who knows me, can see me now and say that I turned out to be quite a lady...

I suggest you let her be who she is. She accepts you and your "girly-ness" why don't you allow her to be herself. I myself am 21 years old and will still go out with the guys and play baseball or football. There is no problem with her liking sports or hanging out with boys.

I suggest you accept and love your sister for who she is.
