Very much a symptom of depression. I have suffered from Manic Depression and been treated since the age of fourteen. No matter the medication, therapy sometimes the negativity just takes over. I call it my low period. The flip side of the coin is sometimes the highs are just as bad. I have a problem with spending when I am on a high. Be supportive. Trust me she is miserable.I know this negativity is hard on you and if you find it starts to depress you explain to your friend that you need a little distance time from her. If possible though find ways to help her through your community mental health services.

Negativity, gloom, despair are all factors symptomatically with depression. Also take into consideration your friend's age; could she also be experiencing menopause or hormonal imbalances as well? Check out the link below on serotonin levels as well. Be the best friend you can to her and remember we all need friends even when we can't be good friends ourselves. That hug or kind word she gets from you may be the only one she gets that day. If that doesn't work, show her some Maxine comics and tell her she reminds you of Maxine.....good luck~

Yes it is probably associated to the depression. People with severe depression feel a real sense of hopelessness. When you are in that state of mind it is difficult if not impossible to see anything in a positive light.

Ask yourself this. When you're upset about something are you a positive thinker? Probably not. Now times those negative thoughts by 100 and that's how your friend is feeling. In her eyes there is nothing to be positive about.

Yes. I swear my Mom is clinically depressed.
I have a co-worker who is clinically depressed, but thinks it means you're crazy if you take pills to fix it.
It's so exasperating! The whole world is against them, everybody hates them, they can't help themselves do anything, because they're doomed to failure through no fault of their own.
Problem is that people who are that negative, have no clue that they are that negative.
Hope your friend is getting some help.
Good luck

as a person who has a personal knowledge on that and is studying psychology in college I can say YES IT IS. Like they said above me, everything is negative because you have no reason to think of anything even if you did like it to be positive. Once shes back to her self be it medicine or therapy her positive attitude will be back!

Yes it's a symptom.
All is negative in their world, even the most trivial of things that others would see as positive.

Unfortunately, yes. I would hope that she is getting treatment and medication. It is really hard to be around someone like that, but more importantly, they need understanding and comfort, not pity, not empathy.
