I am trying to figure out and share what you and I think about the best way to ask and answer questions within the religion and spirituality section. Basically, I am making a list of what I feel all people in this section of answers.yahoo should know.
Please write ideas you feel should be included and problems you have with my ideas. Whoever makes the best point(s) will have the best answer. Feel free to write random nonsense if you want 2 points, because I want to know that someone is actually reading this.
1. Don't suggest that the existance of God can be proven or disproven. Many have tried to do so, but every single one has failed.
2. If you want to prove the accuracy of the Bible, don't do so by quoting the Bible.
3. Microevolution has been proven through experiments. Macroevolution has been theorized based on fossils, genetics, etc., but it is not fully proven.
To be continued!!!

4. Evolution is a theory. Scientifically, a theory isn't fully proven and it isn't a fact. However, theories are supported by large quantities of evidence and justification.
5. Don't assume everyone agrees with you. I've seen people talk about abortion as if 99% of the population were against it, even though, realistically, it's closer to half.
6. If you make an outrageous claim, back it up or at least say where you heard the information.

7. Don't call someone an idiot based on their beliefs. (Feel free to call someone an idiot if they ask something like "Aren't all Muslims evil?" or "My shoes are untied; what should I do?")
8. Don't generalize.

13. Don't comment on something unless you actually understand it. Girl Wonder's response is a good example of how to avoid common misconceptions.
14. Don't try to convert people unless they say that they're looking for a new religion. Keep in mind that telling an Aetheist "Christ be with you" or "I'll pray for your immortal soul" or "You will burn in hell unless you convert" won't work.

15. Contrary to popular belief, our nation was relatively non-religious when it was founded. Also, don't say that the phrase "under God" was included in the pledge before the Cold War.
16. Don't assume that just because 1 person did something that it should reflect on a whole group of people. Just because a person is a murderer or terrorist doesn't mean everyone else with the same religion is too.
