We can worry more about terrorist in other countries but we can't worry about the ones in ours. What is up with that? Gangs are still as popular as they've always been. They are still killing and selling drugs so why isn't it illegal to be in a gang like that?

We have the right as Americans to socialize/congregate with whomever we wish. you wouldn't want it any other way. It's like Free Speech. We may hate what people say, but once we start using OUR judgment on something we don't like, that could backfire and hurt you, too! Remember, someone, somewhere hates who you congregate with and what you say. Thank God for the Bill of rights.

Because freedom of association allows people to get together and interact socially without government restriction.

So, merely being part of a group or organization cannot be illegal. What can be (and is) illegal is committing some criminal action. Or conspiring with or helping someone commit a criminal action. So, law enforcement punishes the criminal behavior, which is the way it's supposed to work.

Until recently, the govt was not allowed to imprison someone just because of who they associated with, if the person being imprisoned had not actually committed any crime. That's recently changed, and imprisonment by association is occurring.

I used to be in a gang. I grew up in England, and when I was 12 my gang stole some fruit of the fruit trees in an orchard (scrumping) and engaged in Gate-swapping on New Years eve and other similar nuisance pranks. Why should that be illegal ?

Murder is a crime, selling drugs is a crime - all the crimes are already crimes.

Freedom of assoiation. You can belong to a group that advocates selling drugs and killing people. However, once you act on it then a criminal act is commited. While most people would find those group amoral, you cannot make the assoication illegal unless you can show that it is actively ingaging in illegal activity. In 1970's Congress RICO laws and basically shut down the mafia.

Simply being a member of a gang is protected by the Bill of Rights. It is falls under the freedom of association. One person's gang is another person's club. What is problematic is not the group, but the behavior.

I'm not sure but you hit on the nail. All gangs should be outlawed and we should go bomb them like we do everyone else. Isn't it pitiful how we stick our noses in where they don't belong and cause more problems and here we just keep getting worse and they don't even care.

Gangs have been around for decades. That is something I don't think anyone will conquer. Drugs have been around for decades and decades. That will always be....sad to say.

gangs are legal because of the personal freedoms we have in this country, would you want to lose all your personal freedoms & have no gangs ? Like your right against unreasonable searches & seizures.

Their activities are illegal. However, you cant stop people from congregating. If thats the case then we woul dhave to dismantle the girl scouts, bible study and other such gatherings.

Because you've got the ACLU backing them up for "freedom of speech".
