I was wondering what's my benefit in appearing in court. Is there a chance they could decrease the payment of 351$? Do i have to court in order to ask them if i could attend traffic school online? Do i talk to the judge? Should I Just By mail.

Its up to you, if you are going to go, I might would talk to a lawyer first. Whatever you plead may have certain legal repercussions on you

Depends on the state, if you go to court, you have to pay court costs which can be between $30-50 in addition to the fine even if you plead guilty right away. However, most states have a flat fee that you pay for this violation and $351 sounds about right. The worst you would have to pay is about 380-400 if this is your first time. However, unless you have a really good reason, and it had better be really good because the judge has heard it all before, you are better off paying. Since it was not a moving violation, they will not send you to traffic school or anything like that and not accept the classes offered on line.

Anything is possible. In California you have to go to traffic school (and pay for it) even if paying the ticket, you do not have to ask the judge if you can attend online. If you have a lot of time to take off work, and get paid whether your there or not, then go ahead.

However, why not just pay the ticket and stay out of the commute lane?

You can go to court, plead guilty, and basically 'cut a deal' with the prosecuter. Most likely if this is your first offense, they will reduce the cost. However, the reduction may not be worth the amount of time it takes to stand in line, wait in the court room, and still pay a ticket.

If you havent had a ticket before for this and you havent had a regulare ticket in a long time then you can go in and try and explain you wont do it again. Something they do here is you can ask for the ticket to be dismissed as long as you dont do it again. If in the next year you get caught again then you will pay BOTH tickets.

You, the driver, the only person in the car, got a citation. Right?
Yes, it might help to go to court. be humble, don't go in there like is a tv court. They Might reduce it and send you to driver school.
Good luck!!
Or you can pay it in payments.
