If you don't believe then why even argue or care what other people think? I've come across this a few times in Y! answers and more times in 24 hour coffee houses people who do not believe in God will ridicule and argue with believers with great passion but I don't understand why, why do they care , why do they even acknowledge someone elses beliefs by arguing over them? It just seems its more about a personal problem within than a problem with people actually believing in God, what do you think?

Aren't we all comfortable enough with ourselves that we don't care what another persons religous beliefs are? Its like arguing with someone over what kind of car to drive.....different strokes for different folks.....if you truly understand that then you would set aside petty arguments and do something that makes you happy......unless arguing makes you happy and that is just sad no matter what you believe.

For many it is to reassure themselves for others it gives them a sense of superiority.

The persons you mention, believe in the movie "The Matrix"
which leaves a clue to the true identify of the world.
G-d is spirit. Humans are spirit to. We're riding the space-ship Earth. Some times called the "Mother-Ship". The people who will ridicule G-d are not the captain of their ship or of anything. The argument is a distress cry! Hoping you are the captain of anything. Truth is what they seek. So little truth is left in the world today. There are no maps. You must not share your pearls with swine! Join your brothers and strengthen the ARK. Speak where you are appreciate. There is truly the power of life and death in the tongue. The matrix was a movie. Hollywood gave a peek at this world we ride. We are the aliens, and we will leave here one day. Going home. So fill yourself with LOVE! it'll be one of the only things you can return home with.

Why are believers so compulsively worried about having their belief questioned?

This "why do atheists come to the religion and spirituality section" question is getting to be REALLY old. Why are you so afraid of having your beliefs questioned?

The ridicule is often because the believers are ridiculous, most notably in their attempts to defend their beliefs and especially to claim that there is evidence for those beliefs.

Why do people who do believe in God always want to force their views on others and then do not want to debate logical arguments? I know the answer to the first part. You're supposed to go out & convert everyone to your belief. Try live & let live.

It's actually pretty simple. When someone makes a point of insisting that their opinion or lifestyle is better than anothers, they are, in essence, insulting that other person.

In the instance of faith, there are very insulting insinuations made in simple comments and beliefs of religious people.

If you say to me, "Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation.", you are basicly saying that I am too stupid to believe in the same thing you believe in and that my beliefs are wrong. You are implying that my character is flawed, and that my lifestyle is not proper. You are saying that I am a bad person, and cannot be living life in a positive way.

Think about it.

Why do you care?

Actually, non-believers debating G/god's existence generally stems from the fact that religious types are prone to force dogma on everyone. You tell me I must be subject to your morality because it's the word of God, then I ask you to prove there even *is* a God, and of course you can't.

In my experience it is because some of the über-religious keep shoving THEIR god down other people's throat. Kind of a "our god is better then yours" scenario. Hence, prostilyzing of many religions. It is a overwhelming need in human nature to be right and to prove to everyone that you are right and they are wrong. Until we can get over that, there will always be this argument.

Theists argue about it too, as well as atheists. It's just such a big issue. It frustrates theists that atheists don't believe, and visa-versa.

Because the Christians passionatly argue back. And they try to convert us and we don't like it.

And saying that all atheists argue "god" is sterotyping. I personaly don't mind Christians if they keep their religion to themselves.

It is always good that they are engaging in discussion about God and existence. I think subconsciously they know that life is meaningless and their own conscience somehow is pushing them to find the truth about their existence.

The only logical reason that I can come up with is that they have Christians trying to make them into a Christian.I can imagine that would annoy them. Otherwise it's nonsense.
