to do. I was recently (approx a month ago) working in Microsoft Word and was backing up to Floppy A Disk. Now when I try to do it again, my computer won't let me! It keeps telling me it is not formatted or may be formatted to McIntosh. Does anyone know why? Or how to fix it?
I am not really good with computers so I wasn't even sure if I should put this under software or hardware. If it's in the wrong category please let me know.
but in the meantime, if someone could help, I'd really appreciate it.

Buy IBM formatted floppys, if for some reason you insist on still using floppys that is. any office goods / computer store sells em in boxes of about 10-20 for just a buck or 2. make sure they say IBM formatted, not MAC.

1) Don't ever back up to a floppy disk. They get corrupted too easily. You should invest in a USB jump drive for about 30-40 dollars.

The only thing I can think of is that the disk is corrupted for Some Reason, and there are really only two things to do:

a) Reformat the disk. Can't help with this one because I haven't used a disc in years. Try right-clicking on the "A:" drive.

b) Get a new disk or (possibly) a new drive, which is sometimes the problem in itself.

Hope this helps.

well floppy disks are not the most reliable medium the disk may be corrupt and need reformatting (this means taht all work on it will be lost) if you still have the original file i would email it to your self so you have a copy on the internet which wont go out even if you through your computer out the window [in your email browser window type your address in both er sender and the reciver spots and add your file as an attachment] or back your work up onto a CD-R if your computer is so equipped [there is usually burning software on the machine consult that] but if you still need to use floppys use a different one and see if its the disk or the drive that is the issue both are simple fixes either use a disk taht wrks or replace the drive

Not really sure why this would occur, but the best thing to do with word documents and floppy disks is to:

1) save it to your hard disk first, and once ur done transfer it to the floppy disk

2) before transferring it, go to my computer, insert the floppy disk and right click on A drive and choose Format and choose the quick option, (enter a label if you wish)

This should stop any problems, if its that particular disk everytime you use it repeat step 2 to ensure its setup to work :-)

Are you trying to back-up again to the SAME floppy? Because it's probably trying to protect what's already on there. Or, if you are using a different program, and trying to add different file types, it may not work. Try a fresh floppy. If it still gives you that message, then go through the procedure to format the disk. (See the previous answer.) Never format a disc with data on it already--you'll lose whatever is there.
