All alcoholic beverages have calories. Pure alcohol has 7 calories per gram (for comparison, fat has 9 calories per gram; protein and carbohydrates have 4), and other components of a beverage will contribute to total calories. However, clear distilled liquors are probably the best choice as far as calories are concerned. Bear in mind that this is only true if you are drinking it alone or with low to no calorie mixers, such as diet soda or diet tonic water.

No- actually it's a lot better to have a cran vodka than a sweet drink-- those have the most sugar and sugar turns to fat. The best are shots- in terms of dieting.

Yes alcohol is a relatively "hidden" source of lots of calories.

Yes, the alcohols are converted to sugars... excess sugars are stored as fat. In addition alcohol can interfere with the proper absorption of nutrients and vitamins in healthier foods...

Unfortunately all alcohol is fattening because it is 99% sugar!
Sugar is basically empty calories...meaning that it is not used well by the body ... it is stored as fat. : (
