I think your cat may have come in contact with a female cat in heat or he smells it. I'd suggest keeping your cat indoors for a couple weeks and getting him fixed. Generally, you want to take "it" away before he gets to use "it" or they don't stop lookin' for "it" even after they've been fixed.
It could also be that he has a bladder infection. They start peeing and it gets to the point they'll do it right in front of you. In that case all you need to do is make a call to the vet and ask for the pill they give out to cure bladder infections.
As for the carpet, you may end up having to just pull it up. That urine has soaked all the way through the padding to the floor. Srubbing will only help the surface smells.

Number one, bring him to a vet to have him looked at for any medical condition. If he doesn't have one, then have him fixed ASAP. There is no reason to not have him fixed.
Number two, blot up the area that he has urinated on and use Simply Solution's oxy cleaner. This works so much better than any of the other cleaners that I've tried.
Number three, get your carpets cleaned.
Number four, get him fixed. I know I've alredy said this, but it's very very important.
And you should NOT make him an outdoor cat, especially if he's not fixed. No animal lover or responsible person would do that.
Good luck to you.

First of all, have him neutered! It may not fix the problem entirely but he won't have the hormones telling him he's got to mark everything in sight. As for the smell, go to your local Petsmart or Petco and get a product called Nature's Miracle. It should be with the other cleansers and is in a white bottle with red letters. It works really well. You may also need to get a product called Feliway. You can either get a spray bottle or diffusers that you plug in. It's a pheromone that helps to relax cats so they don't have the urge to be territorial. I had to use it for my cat when I moved because he got super stressed out (he hates changes in his status quo, typical Siamese) and the diffusers helped a lot. Now he doesn't need them anymore. I only had to use them for about a month or two. Good luck!

baking soda. Make a paste out of baking soda and water. Set it on the spot. Leave for 1 hr. Dab off. The scent should be transferred into the baking soda. It sounds like your cat is marking his territory. Male cats that aren't fixed do that. Your best bet is to get him fixed or make him an outdoor cat. Good luck.

The reason is, he is marking his territory and the only way to stop is to have him nutered.
To get the smell out, you should either get the pet odor remover or some sort of cleaning liquid. We use "Presto" and you can't tell that it is there. Also look for any other all porpose cleaning stuff.

You should get your cat fixed. The cat isn't actually peeing, he's spraying his scent to mark his territory. If you get the cat fixed your cat will no longer do that.

the main problem, obviously, is your cat. neuter him and it'll help alot!! as far s the carpet goes, i'm afraid you'll have to either put up with the smell of cleaning chemicals mixed with cat urine, or remove the carpet and clean from there.

Good luck with that...throw out the carpet seems like a good answer. I never got the smell out of my drapes even though I dry cleaned twice and washed and washed...I could still smell it. I gave up and threw them out.

He's marking his territory. Have him neutered. There are products that will take the odor out. White vinegar is the cheapest and best. Soak the area and then take paper towels and get the excess water out after about an hour.
