I'm looking for recommendations for how my wife and I can emphasize Christianity on Halloween night.

We are not looking for Halloween to be a single or special day of reflecting Jesus Christ in our community (for Christ is in every day), but we understand that there will be many families out on Halloween night. It seems like a great opportunity...

We will be asking this same question in fellowship with the church, but I thought that perhaps this audience would have some valuable ideas (perhaps from personal experience).

Thank you and God bless.

A lot of responses are arguing the relationship between Christianity and Halloween. I'm looking for ideas to share my love for Jesus Christ on a day when 200 people are going to be knocking on my door. I appreciate all of your responses and may God bless you all.

Kind of difficult to celebrate one of Satan's four High Holidays.

Samhain - pronouced Saween is the most DEADLY of them all.

A day of human sacrifice and more.
Do not kid yourself that it is not taking place today in Canada and the USA.

My wife and I used to add pamphlets to the candy treats at the door- but no longer bother because we found the pamphlets the next day - scattered down the street in our neighborhood (as expected).

PRAY ABOUT IT.

The closest connection you are going to get concerning Halloween and Christianity is that the word "Halloween" comes from "All Hallow'ds Eve," meaning the night before the Catholic Holy Day of "All Saints Day." I don't know if or how this day is marked in other Christian denominations... I think it's a Catholic thing, saints and all that.

Pretty much all of the traditions celebrated in the US around Halloween stem from non-Christian roots. Some pagans believe that at this time the veil between our world and the world of the dead is the thinnest. People dress up as monster and whatnot to either scare away evil spirits or blend in and not be harmed.

I don't know your neighborhood, but I think any evangelization on Halloween is going to do Christianity more harm than good. Just let the kids enjoy their costumes and candy! Or if the event really bothers you, just don't participate. No worries either way.

Why not have a Fall type party? Like I read above go ahead and carve some pumpkins, do decorations (fall type) and play games like bob for apples, take a hey ride. I was always told that Halloween is a worldly day and not of Christ. However I did go tick-or-treat and all that stuff. Now that I am a parent I have let mine to the same but have been torn over weather I should or not. One of my children was born on Halloween so now we just have a party and that it it.

LOL I wish people would READ the question for once before answering. The only thing I can think if is handing out christian fliers with or instead of candy. Good luck! We just stay home like any other night, but I've never thought of trying to take advantage of all the families out and about by soul winning. Good idea!

Halloween has nothing to do with the divine. In some countries like Mexico (Day of the Dead) it is believed family spirits come to visit on Halloween, but in America, as with Christmas, we just buy stuff. A said state of affairs, I know.

If you want to go all holy on everybodys rear end, then I'd suggest carving the face of Jesus/Mary/etc. into pumpkins, and perhaps handing out bags of candy, on which you can write Bible verse that kids will appreciate.

Good luck and God Bless you.

In a small town I lived in some of the youth groups from a local church handed out religious tracts and candy on the streets. Quite a few churches hosted "Trunk or Treat".
BTW, I am not Christian and I don't exactly support the above practices. You asked for suggestion, and these are what I had to offer.

A "Harvest Party" is not out of the question. Halloween however is a Pagan Holiday. A harvest party with bobbing for apples and maybe even a pinata isnt a bad idea though.

Couldn't you have a costume party where the guests dress like people from the Bible? Just because you're Christian doesn't mean you can't have fun!

Halloween stems from a Pagan celebration, just like Christmas and Easter. If you celebrate Christmas and Easter, I don't see why you'd have a problem with the essence of Halloween.
