First I'd want to know how you classify a fellow human being (You are talking about human beings, aren't you?) as a "weirdo?".... obiviously someone who isn't like you?
I've worked in libraries for 30 years. First off let's cut the stereotypes. Libraries don't just have books and they aren't so quiet that you can take a long nap in them. Obviously the person who made that comment has never been in a library during children's story hour, club meetings, dance demonstrations, drum and bugle corps concerts or free movie nights. Do you get the picture??? Many libraries are not what TV and the movies portray them as.
Now I would admit that some "weirdos" come to libraries because they are agreeable, comfortable places where people don't expect you to shop or they kick you out.
But I would add that a lot of "weirdos" come to libraries to check out DVDs for free, listen to music for free, access the Internet for free, check out the latest issue of "Sports Illustrated" (either online or in paper) for free, search Internet sites such as ancestry.com which would normally charge them to search at home... for free at the library.
Then of course there are the cultural/musical/movie things I mentioned at the beginning of my answer. And some libraries have restaurants (the one in my town does) and art galleries in them as well.
I'd say that many local libraries have something for just about every "weirdo" in town.... Maybe even you???
My best to you
Bill... a weirdo librarian who loves his job and the many weirdos he meets in the library every day

Free bathrooms, lots of space, nobody bugs you. A lot of homeless people will hang out at the library.
Most of the weirdos work in libraries, myself included.

LOL. my sister used to work at the library and always told me about the people who come in regularly. i think it's b/c it's public, free, and you can just go in there and chill. Also, b/c it's pretty quiet. You could take a pretty good nap in there.

I think its because they are homeless and shelters make them leave in the daytime...they have certain hrs they have to go.The library is warm or cool depending on the season.

Hey!..I work in a library so I take offense to that remark. If you consider people who read to be weirdos then I guess that means you are somewhat illiterate. and btw..you spelled weirdos wrong!

Because it is airconditioned and heated, because the librarians don't kick people out unless they are sleeping or disturbing others, because they don't have anything better to do.

Because they are the smart ones. Although some are homeless not all homeless are weirdos.
