None of that "over the hill" stuff. Take it from me---I've passed that birthday milestone. Get a bunch of her friends together and go to a Chippendales show. If she would be offended or embarrassed by that, then plan a very nice dinner (either at home or a restaurant) and give her presents that reflect her special interests or accomplishments. It would be great if you could gather some of the people she was close to in the past, but has lost touch with---that would take some doing, but it might be great fun for her.

Arrange to have a funeral home vehicle or ambulance pick her up and take her to a surprise party. Gag gifts are lots of fun. Also, she will now become a full fledged member of the Red Hat Society and AARP member....check out their websites and grab some ideas. Fifty is fabulous could be your theme....Have a bunch of ladies at the local nursing home tell you what 50 means to them and read the list at the party. That could be lots of fun.
Sounds like she has a nice child to be so thoughtful of her on her birthday. Have fun.

Have a surprise party. Maybe at your house or at a resturant.
Make it a theme party, what kind of things does your mom like?
Maybe make it a 1950's theme: because she was born in the 50's and she is 50.
I don't know, I am not good at this stuff. Sorry and good luck!

She must have been in the fifties, like me, so how about a Rock and Roll Party, from the year she was born. Dont know about games, places, presents though.

I didn't have a party because my mom didn't want to admit she was turning 50. My daughter (she's 5) and I surprised her that morning with muffins for breakfast before she left for work. My daughter made a picture for her. We didn't tell her that we were coming, just showed up. She absolutely loved it.

have a party with everyone close to her there. have everyone write a lil something about how she has changed their life or how she helped them through a difficult time or just how much they appreciate her being in their life. Have a special chair for her and then have everybody, one by one, stand up and read their stories. she would appreciate that more than anything! she is hitting a milestone in her life and it would be really nice for her to know the first half of her life wasnt wasted...she really made a difference.

When my mother-in-law turned fifty, friends and family prepared 50 different kinds of foods. They included soups, salads, entrees and desserts. Lots of fun !
