While you're doing exactly the right things to help calm and relax you, they aren't always enough to prevent or abort panic attacks. I use Zocor, a prescription medicine that's nicely effective. You do need to see your physician and describe what's going on so that he or she can appropriately prescribe the medication.
Zocor isn't the only one that's effective, and it's generic equivalent is just as safe and effective.
One more thing might help in addition to the medication: eliminate caffiene intake. Coffee, tea, colas and chocolate all contain substantial amounts of that drug. Good luck - those attacks are a real pain in the butt, aren't they!

Hi
There are many good medications for anxiety such as Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft. These medications take from between 4-6 weeks to build in the body to a therapeutic level. There are also anti anxiety medications such as, Ativan, Klonopin, Valium. These medications work quickly in about 30 minutes, but are addictive. They are usually given short term until the other medication begin to work. Hope this helps

Find the source of the anxiety. Some event(s) in your past has truamatized you. The panic attack is you subconciously reliving that event. Once you find the source you must come to understand why the event happened. None of us are prefect and sometimes we make poor decisions. The problem is that most people want to keep the truma buried because once it comes out a flood could occur. However, until those events are dealt with you will not get the panic attacks. Good Luck.

many mental health centers offer classes that teach you skills for coping with panic disorder. A psychiatrist can prescribe antianxiety agents as well.
