As each person lives in a world created by himself(or the society he lives in), the modern saints make sense to the people of India, with regards to their believes and customs.Just the same way as the saints of the Christian New Testament makes sense to the christians. There is no way u can compare these two, since they both are of different dimensions and makes sense only to those who are in that dimension.

What do you mean? Any Christian that chooses death over denying God is a saint, as the New Testament saints were, but all God's people are saints when we die.

Hello. It depends on what you mean by the word "SAINT".
A saint, contrary to what a lot of Christains think,is not a DEAD CHRISTAIN,who lived and died for GOD,a saint is ANYBODY WHO HAS ACCEPTED JESUS CHRIST AS LORD AND SAVIOR. A saint is also not perfect ,saints are in the process of being perfected(Book of Ephesians).
So,i will say a BIG YES to your question, because the saints in the early church experienced things similar to those being experienced by those in India right now.

In India they pray to gods and goddesses-it's not the same thing as saints, though, technically because they're statues, they could be.

A saint is a saint, regardless of what country or time period in which they lived.
