If a man came along that was todays version of Christ and said, "Drop everything you are doing, sell everything, give the money to the poor, and come and minister to the Word with me." How long would it take to find 12 that would do that.

Well, it wouldn't happen, because if Jesus were to come back today the Fundamentalists and so-called "Christians" would not recognize Him and would probably have Him murdered as a heretic. Or they would wrongly assume He was the devil or something... There can be no "today's version" - Jesus is what He is, and modern man would not know Him if He returned. They love to say that they would, but they have strayed so far off the path with their words of hate and intolerance in His name that He probably wouldn't even have them now.

Go to the middle east, invent a religion like Christ did, and I'll bet as long as hating Americans was a part of it you'd have 12 DOZEN camel jockies following you around with automatic weapons and willing to do any damn thing you want. Religion is just another addiction.

Just as hard today as it was then. At least for someone like you or me. The variable your not taking into consideration is Jesus Christ. I believe that in the presence of Jesus people could be led to do anything.

Assuming they even existed in the first place, do we even know anything about the lives and character of the disciples? Could've been Jesus rounded up twelve homeless schizophrenics and "deputized" them to carry on his word...

Easy - just look at the followers who give everything to those wacky cults that spring up from time to time. It is impossible to overestimate how stupid some people can actually be.
