As a gunshot victim, I have written my Congressman asking that he provide me with information about how I might go about getting solid information on some shootings so that I would know exactly where I stand, and avoid commiting insurance fraud on any future policies, etc. His responce put into question the existance of gunshot records keeping at all as a practice of the federal government.

Are hospitals still required to amass and distribute such records to the federal government? Can victims of Gunshot wounds access these Fed. records if they exist? Is it that after a cop shoots a handcuffed man in a hospital parking lot that the police will then deny that that person was shot if by some miracle he survives the headwound? Will the hospital will do the same for "liability reasons" - should the victim recover memory? Do such records exist solely to allow insurance companies, able to access records of gunshots, to be able to refuse later policies on the basis of 'insurance fraud'?

Err, I just informed you that a man was shot while he was handcuffed by police; and a self identifying police officer states he has no sympathy "if" the victim be a 'bad guy'. What is wrong with this picture? Does a felon have the right to frame people by murder, set the mad dog police on them and get them shot? Do cops have the right now to shoot unarmed handcuffed men if they suspect that person of wrongdoing without trial before the date rape drugs can wear off and that person can identify the real serial killer (He is, by the way known to me now and but for the fact that due to that policeman's summary attempt at execution he might have been found guilty, but a man with even worse brain damage doesn't make a good witness)? Danna H, pooh pooh bad form. You Sir are a Criminally Minded fellow.

It was the local cops that shot me, and apparently decided to refuse to pay for it. Is anyone actually sure that there is no national registry that the local cops are supposed to send the data to? Please, answering, by refusing to give cogent statements is not answering, it is obstruction. Obviously if there is a database, someone must report something to someone and to be meaningful this data must be categorized. Who then does this get reported to? Someone out there must work for the government in either a capacity of recorder of information or as a person that tells that person who was shot. Please, If I am to get some degree of satisfaction for my murdered neighbors and myself I need to know the official score if their is indeed some small degree of honesty in National or local governments. I cannot bring myself to confront people I know have at least at one moment in time years ago decided to kill me and acted on it; I'm sorry it seems cowardly to you.

You don't make a lot of sense, I guess there was significant brain damage. Anyway to answer your question there are records kept but they may not be the most accurate because like with your "shooting" if the officer is denying it happened then the data recorded would be incomplete and fall into that dark figure. For it to be complete it must be reported as a shooting. SO I think it would be a waist of your time to let you know that you can find what you are looking for here:

I take it you were the "misunderstood" bad guy who the police officer shot????? um yeah police departments and hospitals dont cover things like that up for "liability reasons" If you were the bad guy who was shot (sorry I dont have any sympathy for you, as I have worked in law enforcement and have many friends that are police officers) the officer should of written a use of force report on the incident on why he shot you.
There is a record kept I believe by the FBI of all violent crimes ie rape, murder, weapons used (i believe) but I can't think off the top of my head the name of the report.
if you are looking for the report for the hospital shooting contact the police department that was involved.

As far as I know, it is required to report all gunshot wounds to the local law enforcement agency. There is no national registry per se but their are statistics available. You would have to contact your local law enforcement agency.
