1. Godless societies are to be greatly feared, for if you are but a random quirk of nature, whose life is meaningless in the grand scheme of nature, then you can be sacrificed, genetically cleansed, etc..
2. Once religion is politicized by society, it is to be greatly feared, for then lack of belief is sufficient cause for death, not by God, but by man, for by rights, judgement is God's, not man's.
3. People who believe in a creator and have a personal faith in their God, in a society where the free expression of religion is a protected right, are to be cherished.
4. If God told you that he created life over 3.6 Billion years, and the truth is to be found in the fossil record, then Science will prove that what God told you was right. QED!

Religion: \ri-li-jen\ noun 1: the service and worship of God or the supernatural. 2. devotion to a religious faith. 3. a personal set or institutionalized systems of religious beliefs, attitudes, and practices 4 a cause, principle or belief held to with faith and ardor.
The short answer to your question is no, but I have more to say.....
You are saying my worship of God, devotion to my faith, personal practices, attitudes and beliefs should be against the law? Last time I checked, those things were allowed in the USA, that is why I choose to stay here instead of moving to a Communist country. There are so many negative things said against people that love God because of a handful of extremists that paint a bad picture. Then there are those of us that worship our God and believe in the Holy Bible that you call stupid, but we don't hurt anyone or try to force our beliefs on anyone else and we get persecuted by the likes of you. What right do you have to judge us and say we are wrong? I am a good person, I help those that need help where I am able, I have not killed anyone, I obey the laws put forth by God and by man and I take care of my family. I can live a decent life while using the bible as a guide, not a crutch. Oh, and Darwin was wrong, God's word told me he was. Go ahead, prove me wrong.

If you are speaking of the worshipping of God, as religion; then no it should not be outlawed. For the Word of God teaches us all the way through, to worship and give praise unto God. And any version of religion which believes that killing one another is right before God, most certainly has a problem. As far as the same exact story in the end, the only true story is that every person will stand before God and give account of their deeds while living upon this earth. It is what is known as the "Great White Throne Judgment." You can call Christian people "bible thumping rutters" or whatever you please; but you can also rest assured that you will one day stand before God and give account of your words, as well as your deeds. There may be certain people who just pick out and follow the parts of the Bible that they choose, but they will never get anywhere with God. I personally believe that the entire Bible is our guidebook for our life. And I know that I must obey every bit of it, From Genesis to Revelations. I hope and pray that you ask for God's forgiveness for calling God's Holy Word a stupid book. May God have mercy upon you.

Good point, but if it wasn't religion, it would be something else. People with fears about death, feelings of personal insecurity and a craving for validation need something to make them feel better. When religion is available, they choose that. If religion was illegal or unavailable for some other reason, these people would find other groups to give the same validation and justification for bad behavior.
There are some people who actually achieve some spiritual growth by practicing religion, but you don't hear much about them on the news because they aren't starting arguments and wars or telling other people what they have to believe. Some people use religion in the right way. It is the ones who use it wrong who are messing it up for the rest of us.
By the way, God said don't kill. God said that very clearly. Killing and blaming it on God is blasphemy- the unforgivable sin of attributing evil to God.

I am an agnostic and I believe in science over religion by far.
However, the outlaw of religion would be an imitation of a totalitarian/communist state.
Would the hardships religion cause be worse than living under an overly-imposing government? Or is it vice versa?
I'd say that at this rate, especially in civilized/industrialized countries outside the United States where there is somewhat separation of church and state, religion will play less and less of a role. We only needed it to explain the inexplicable, and science has now played a huge role in our understanding, wiping out the need for religion. I have no idea why the United States is still far more religious than Europe, but in a century, I bet only a small minority will still be religious.

I think these problems are more of a result of funamentalist religion, not merely religion itself. I think if religion were outlawed, people would suffer as a result of being suppressed for their religious beliefs. While I agree that religion is often at the root of suppression, I do not think the answer would be more suppression. I think supression would cause fundies to become even more fundie. I admit, I get tired of it too - this "my god is better than your god" crap. I also get tired of people's rights being denied becasue of what people believe in their religion - i.e. gay marriage. And when I see people salivating over armegeddon I shiver - not cuz I'm afraid of what god is going to do, but because I'm afraid of people who are so hell-bent on destruction. But outlawing religion would legitimize their beliefs and make martyrs. I don't think it would put a stop to it. The best thing to do is be informed and to stand up for and know what you believe.

Wow... you are a communist apparently.. awesome... She really ought to look up communism...
Religion can teach very good, very strong morals. One of the best ways to teach a child the difference between right and wrong (and why they are right and wrong) is by example. Many religions provide that.
Religion is like any other trait that we have, a way that some people dominate over others. Religion, race, location, orientation, hair color... none of these differences are bad things, until excessive pride is present. It's not just religion, its all differences. People will use anything they have to make themselves better than others.
Just to be clear here, I am not a "bible thumping nut". I am agnostic.... and I find your way of approaching this topic rather offensive.

Christianity should not be outlawed. we have the right to beleive! Also, The Holy Bible is as much of a crutch as a parachute is if you are jumping out of a plane. It is a neccessity, and without it, you will surely die (and burn in Hell)! You must turn from your sins, and follow Jesus.
Darwin was not right! God's own book, The Holy Bible, says in Genisis chapter 1, verse one, that God created the heavens and the earth! The contradicts what Darwin had said. It is also impossible that God changed his mind to "make Darwin right." Because in the book of James, chapter 1, verse 17 says that God never changes. So that makes it impossible for God to have told you that Darwin was right!!!!!!!!!!!

They tried that in Russia, China, Vietnam, Korea, Cuba...
Results were more people slaughtered in a single century by atheism then all the rest of history put together. Bad idea.
We need to keep the Christians around to assure there is still somebody alive a century from now.

Well...let's see, they tried to do it in Nazi Germany - failure
They tried to do it with Communism - failure
Maybe God wants it to stick around?
And also, you ask why can't use bible thumpers ditch our religion and just learn to be a good person. Where do you think the ability to distinguish between right and wrong came from?
Evolution? Instinctive morality cannot be evolved
