It is not exactly a cure for depression. I tried it. A personal prayer life is more powerful.

Organised (English spelling) Religion is really just evil in disguise.

Religion is responsible for the majority of wars, conflict and murder of innocent life since humanity began. There is considerable evidence to classify religion as evil, and talk of religion (Gods etc) should be banned. Because the records prove over and over again throughout humanity that religion is clearly responsible for crimes against humanity, taking part in any religious activity should also be outlawed and made a criminal offence.

The world would be a much happier and peaceful place if religion ceased to exist. Although there are some decent religious believers and preachers, they are unwittingly spreading evil around our world, and that they should simply keep their beliefs and thoughts to themselves in the best interests of humanity, or suffer the consequences for their actions.

People should consider that the world would be like Heaven if religion ceased to exist, but all the believers and preachers have turned the planet into Hell.

In summary, organised religion is depressing, dangerous and destructive to humanity.

Well, I cannot speak for ALL religions of course, but from a personal standpoint I don't think organized religion is stupid. I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) and our faith is neither dangerous nor stupid. When a tragedy strikes anywhere in the world, members of the LDS church are the first on the seen helping their brothers and sisters of ALL faiths, ALL races, ALL religions, ALL ethnicities, without ever expecting anything in return. Food, blankets, clean water, diapers, clothing, medical supplies, and money is all donated by church members throughout the world to help others they will never meet. I'm quite certain if you talked to those who received this care in time of need, THEY wouldn't say that our religion is stupid. No one in our church is paid for their service, there is NO paid ministry, everyone, even the leaders donate their time, talents, and everything with which they have blessed to bless the lives of others.

You mentioned how effective you've found personal prayer. But personal prayer doesn't really help help anyone but YOU. If a flood strikes New Orleans, it really doesn't help the people there if someone in Portland, Oregon prays for them. They need people who roll up their sleeves and DO SOMETHING to help their fellow man. The LDS church teaches that prayer IS important but it is the first step, not the final result. Prayer is like reading the scriptures--it is not DOING the will of God, it is merely preparing one to LIVE the gospel. There is nothing more pointless than a group of religious nuts who gather and burn candles when someone is missing or has been kidnapped. I hope that if I am ever kidnapped I don't have a bunch of glassy-eyed religious wackos standing around singing hymns and lighting candles for me. I hope someone in the group has the good sense to say, "Let's go out and look for him." It is the DOING that separates false religions for a true one.

It seems to be the easy way out of finding your own answers to life's questions. Those that need to be forced into a set of rules just to be decent people are probably better off, so more power to them.

But my personal opinion is that most religions are a waste of energy and time, restrict a person's ability to reason, and attempt to stunt self-discovery and free will.

Religion would be stupid for me, at least.

All organized religion is manmade and are worldly religions. However, the true "religion" can be discovered in the Scriptures if your own spirit of Truth (that can be found within) has healed you of your blindness and your deafness so that you can see and hear it. But those who have not been healed of these infirmities cannot discern the Truth as recorded in the Word of God made flesh in this world.

I think organized religion is big business and a real money maker.
It is a social club where you can go and hear anything you want and have cake, with other people.
As far as having anything to do with religion it doesn't.
The Veterans Administration has picnics that are similar.
I object to pagan holidays where the churches go along with pagan customs and have children hiding Easter eggs.
These holidays make money, such as Christmas.

I don't think it's stupid, it serves a purpose for the people who participate, but I choose not to. I just feel that God doesn't live in church, and doesn't care what denomination I am, or even if I choose to recognize him or not, he gave us free will after all.

What I have a problem with in Organized religion, is the fact that the way I believe God to be would be considered a sin, and I will surely go to hell for it. The pretentiousness of it bothers me.

reason this through
Being a Christian means that one has a relationship with Jesus Christ
SO - there is a BIG difference between a religion and a relationship

James 1: 26 says "If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless.
This is pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father, to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world."

Let this sink in for a while.
This is what the bible has to say about religion.

Sure... so is disorganized religion. Quite dangerous, too. Think about it... half of the earth's population (christianity, Islam) eagerly awaiting the destruction of the world, with gleeful anticipation, so they can be 'saved' by some imaginary sky-daddy? Scary, insane and VERY dangerous. Fundamentally, this is no different than Jim Jones, the 'Heaven's Gate' gang, etc.

Be afraid... be VERY afraid.

Yes, organized religion is a control issue made by man not God. God and prayer is the ultimate cure for depression.

Organized religion is much worse than just stupid - it actually rots mental health by promoting delusion and makes the world a poorer place to live.

Organized religion is not stupid, depending upon your mindset. To me, it is a stupid waste of time and money. But to others, it represents a powerful comfort that can be shared with a large group of people with the same mindset. Don't worry if it didn't help you in any way. COntinue your personal prayer life. But if you are truly depressed, please seek professional help.
